Deck and Patio Fun

Deck and Patio Fun

Deck and patio fun in the shade and sun.
I like to spend time on our deck it’s wood 12’ x 14’ with a grape vine wrapped around the rail of it uncovered open to the sky. In the mornings I sit at the round table with an oil cloth garden design covering as I sip my coffee or tea. I read my morning devotional there as the sun comes up it is the most wonderful moment over the tree tops.

In the afternoons on the nice days I like to sit on our patio and write in my journal about the days events. I look at the backyard and garden enjoying the green of spring and the color of the pink peach, white apple and fragrant edible plum flowers, and those of the purple leaf plum as they bloom. I enjoy the taste of a glass of lemonade after I mow here as I rest to catch my breath enjoying the sounds of the ice tinkling against the glass. Birds sing in the tree and I watch them as they visit the feeder under the eve of the house above the deck.

There is one spot we are careful to avoid it is needing replaced on the deck under the table. One of our daughter’s old boyfriends was sitting at family dinner on a warm summers evening and it gave way he to quite a start and his eyes got as big a saucers. We laughed so hard we had tears rolling down our cheeks, and our sides hurt. Dear son choked on his corn on the cob saying "oh yea you have to watch out for that spot".

{The kids are collage age at this time.}

In the fall grapes ripen deer graze on them and the apples in our yard. Chimes tinkle in the breeze over the secret spot hiding my angel statue standing guard nearby tucked in the grape leaves, you have to look closely to find her. We can see the hot pink crab apple blossoms in full bloom now from the deck the red climbing roses are just now beginning to bud.

Daffodils and pansies adorn the herb beds near the patio. Tulips are scattered around the yard in bright spots of color at various locations, and other focal points are also visible from the patio, or in my chair where I sit to rest, these inspire us as we relax after a hard day of work or play.

I helped decorate my sister’s deck for her wedding reception, with white netting, bows. Baskets of silk flower arrangements were on long tables the guys had hauled over from the church. She cut the cake in the shade just off the deck. That evening deer came out of the trees and bedded down in the yard.

My granddaughter likes to play on their porch in the big whiskey barrel planter with brightly colored pansies growing in them using her toy shovel. Her baby sister laughs and coos as as she watches. The have a child’s two seater lawn chair with a beverage container spot that hold their bottles!
