Biker blog week 3 Flying boats and other adventures

6-21-98 95 mi. two bikes Flying boats and other adventures

Today was gorgeous when we got up, we went on a ride with two bikes. It was awesome! Beautiful blue skies, the wildflowers are blooming up in the mountains we went to Winchester, up the old grade. We saw wild sunflowers, wild roses, and some in flower gardens along the way. The hills were beautiful and green, the smell of the forest is exhilarating. We went 95 mi. today. We stopped at a burger place called Cadillac ranch we like to go to up on top of the prairie. The fields were all green pea, wheat, barley is all up and doing great from all the rains this month. As we are eating we are able to watch deer graze in this fields that was neat.

When we came out of the cafe dh decides he going to lead he has this grin from ear to ear. "Uh-oh" I think to myself, he heads off through the gravel to a dirt road through a field. It’s dry but someone has went through in a truck when it wasn’t dry and there is a 6” deep rut in it! So we try to get to one side the side we picked had a low spot with standing water. So I back up a little ,to get a better spot to cross over the rut to avoid the mud hole. So I do a little dirt biking. On the first try I don’t get the front tire out but on the second try I do. The back tire is a little more challenging, I pour on the coal (throttle) to it and dh said I had it sideways but am able to walk it out. Creeping forward. So THAT was interesting! =D
On the way home we see a cop just over the crest of the hill, we are behind a slow rig.

Further down the grade almost at the bottom a sheriff and state cop have three kids pulled over. There are crouched in the shade.

Then we take the cut-off go up another grade and we end up behind a small size pick up with a boat bungie strapped in the bed. The bungies break and wind picks up the boat and it is flying right for us. Dh clamps on both brakes and I smell burnt rubber, and see blue smoke from the tires. And miraculously the boat misses both of us. I slow down, and gear down and switch tracks, and get around the boat in one lane on the right track, and the pick-up that has stopped by now in the road.

Dh yells at the guy something – I can’t tell what. I yelled "BOAT"! At the top of my lungs as I go by. His window is down & I slow down so I KNOW he hears me! WOW! Our hearts are pumping and adrenalin is surging through our veins! This we can do with out!

We enjoy seeing baby horses on the way home and discuss the events of the boat incident over the CB two way radio. We stop at the park on the other side of the river where we can see swallows nest rock we decide not to tour through the park and just get our bearings for a few minutes after that close encounter with a flying boat that almost took us out, we are grateful to be alive, upright and intact! We head on home, go through a detour and arrive home the rest of the trip is uneventful after stopping for fuel and a soda.

Dh changes oil in his bike and we sit down and discuss the thrills of this ride. Earlier we made reservations for our 4 th of July trip! I can’t wait for that. It’s out 25th wedding anniversary too! The big (KOA) cabin which we were hoping to use is not done so we told them to call us when it it.

I saw a deer grazing in the field when I took some apples down for it from our tree when I got home, I walk to the corner ½ a block form her and can see it a couple times a week. Some times I can see four of them. That’s wonderful! What a fantastic weekend!

6-23-98 30 mi. solo trip

Yesterday I rode dh’s virago, it needed to have the battery charged up, it had been sitting for a couple of weeks. It was fun I felt better when I got back it is good for relieving stress. I rode down on the other side of the river past the park to the turn off where you do down to the dam. It was great weather nice and hot! Storm clouds gathering made for an awesome sky view. The sun reflected off the river looking so blue like the sky.

The river queen steam boat was chugging along on in, and further on down a barge was coming up to get another load of wheat! A very interesting thirty mile trip, neat that it is so close to home too! I got two miles from home and realized I’d forgotten my wallet. So I had to swing back by home for it. =D It was a fun ride.

6-24-98 Wed. Tooling around town solo

Yesterday I took a drive on my motor cycle around the heights were we live and went up by our old church it’s the highest point in the area. I could see out over the whole area it was awesome as breathtaking view. I rode around some of the other streets and looks at homes, the river, lawns and flowers. It was fun, the fresh air was great I felt renewed afterwards.
