Biker blog 17 Great Falls, Mt.

Biker blog 17 Vacation Great Falls, Mt.
228 Mi. two bikes

Long day we went 30 mi. out of the way to see the Lewis Clark caverns. That was $20 a 2 mi. walk lots of stairs and very much worth the time, effort and money. Dh had not been in a cave before. The tour guide did an excellent job. We learned a lot!

After that we had lunch at the park, then came on back to the main road. We had four lane roads the rest of the way. It was hot running we got sun burnt.

The water park at the KOA is awesome we had a blast in it doing the slide and soaking the in the hot tub and going back and forth between those too! =D It brought out the kid in us! (This is before we had grandkids.) They had a sunflower shower, and fountains galore it was neat just to hear the water as we sat beside the pool. There was banjo fiddle and guitar music in the evening, the showers here were the best we have had yet!

We came through town during rush hour traffic, some guy was gawking at dhs’ bike and rear ended the vehicle in front of him. Another town we were in was so small 2 bikes were a parade the kids all came out to see us!

We met a bike club and dh was ahead of me the did not wave at him but that all wave at me! I got a thumbs up earlier to =D

Biker Blog 16 Bozeman, Mt

Biker blog Vacation Bozeman, Mt.
8-31-98 Bozeman 123 mi. 2 bikes.
http://www.koa.com/where/mt/26105/localarea/

We did not get up as early today had snacks granola bars that we bring for breakfast so we did not stop to eat did save some time there. A guy talked with us while we packed up and had just brought an older Gold wing was asking us all about our trip and how we packed up and loaded our bikes.

It is neat my one bag and sleeping bag I bungee down with bigger bungies, and then use a stretchy nylon net it hooks to the saddle bags. It works slick! We were almost getting it down to a system now as we bet more practice each day, it helps to pack up the night before as much as we can and set out our clothes for the next day.

We stopped at some neat and unusual places I got some post cards and stamps, a silver bracelet I love those! I found some wool to some of my favorite places to shop are Virginia City, Mt. and unique little out of the way shops that we find along the way. I much happier if we get time to shop and there is a fast food place not far way so we don’t have to cook, so we try to allow for this less to pack too! Aluminum instead of cast iron pots for camping weight less too.

Beautiful scenery awesome weather lots of great fishing spots & shopping life is awesome all except for one thing road construction. We watch and time it perfectly we shopped while waiting for construction to allow traffic flow to get going again. =D We get right through that as a blessing. Nice campground and hot springs too!

We did laundry again, seems we need to do that every two days clean dry clothes pack better and ones that aren’t. We went to dinner and stop for a look-see at a Montana woolen shop, then fueled my bike before coming back to the cabin for the evening.

{The joke is that we have to stop at all the fueling up places along the way, eventually I trade up and get a bigger bike just because it has a larger fuel tank. 113 mi. is about all my butt can take anyway. On one trip to Canada with a group dh & I stop for fuel they buzz right on by us, before the day is out guess who runs out of fuel! NOT ME! LOL! =D }

Biker blog 15 Dillon, Mt.

Biker blog 14 Vacation Dillon, Mt.
8-30-98 177 mi. Dillon Mt. two bikes
Up early to see the sunrise packed up early and got a good start I ran out of fuel and had to switch it over to the reserve tank on the way to fuel up 11 nervous miles for me. We drove on Reserve Street and had good luck with traffic since it was so early and no construction on Sunday.

We had breakfast at Lolo, Mt. is was good food a truck stop, we stopped in Darby to do some shopping and found some post cards and a sliver bracelet I really liked got those, found an antique spinning wheel, and trunk, that had me drooling but could not figure out how to get them home. I’ve had my eye out for one for a while.

I saw the mill dh hauled out of for three weeks this spring, chips, sawdust shavings, and hot fuel, at Darby. There were oodles of log home manufactures there and at Hamilton too. That was neat, my virago drives wonderful up over the pass to last trial, we saw a family of wild mountain sheep and a tourist not even off the road with her video cameras was taking pictures. I saw a moose standing in the shade. Dh saw a beaver. After we come off the lost trail pass we fueled up in Wisdom, Mt. it was beautiful weather and nice running for the bikes. In Mt. I have to switch to high octane fuel to get my bike to run well, I learned this in previous trips.

We saw cattle, sheep and gobs of hay stacks and how they make them from a sign at a pull out one of those historical attractions that fascinated dh who’s family was farmers.

When we got into town we had to fuel up and went to the local dairy queen and was too full to sit down in there so I drove a block to campus and we ate under a shade tree on a picnic table by a creek ~ irrigation canal actually while we discussed our trip we saw a wild canary in the tree.

After we left there were drove around campus and in on older part of wont with Victorian homes it was neat!

Two guys I’d seen at Lolo drive by on Harley by in Dillon, Mt. and then grabbed our spot in the shade. I do know how to pick great spots!

Biker blog 14 Vacation Missoula, Mt.

Biker blog 13 8-29-89 Vacation Missoula, Mt.
Great traveling weather! Bikes are running awesome! Construction on the way here we will leave a different away out of this KOA camp ground.
http://koakampgrounds.com/where/mt/26115/ We got here by 12:00 noon our time we had a good ride up . It was cool perfect riding weather. On highway 12 it’s easy to see how it got that name. Clear water in the Clearwater river: the rivers and streams running over the rocks were too. Last night it was really soothing to hear the water when we stopped. It feels good to relax and unwind.

There were lots of birds especially blue jays on the way up. Tree covered mountain views were awesome. Lolo pass is great and in the past we have been to the Lolo hot springs and stayed a Lolo camp ground.

We Unloaded our bikes pronto and got the bed made out with sleeping bags. This KOA is one of our favorites, has a pool hot tub, mini golf, bikes to rent, a petting zoo, and shopping mall just down the road a bit. Went to the books store Walden books I think it was, and the peer one import, I wanted the whole store but it would not fit in the motor cycle trailer.

We have no pillows, or bedding we have to bring our own for the KOA cabins, we have our sleeping bags, we will look for inflatable pillows or use towels.

It’s warming right up as I sit at this small picnic table that goes with the cabin we rented for the night I sit here and write in my motor cycle journal. We have been to the petting zoo, I took some hay pellets the sell here. They had peacocks, a mama with babies, llamas, donkey pigmy goats, duck, geese, at the zoo. It was fun a surprise to find that and we haven’t’ done that on vacation before here, enjoyed the walk too.

We went to an out door mountaineer’s festival like our local festival at home they had booths and different artisans there, pottery, African authentic clothes and masks, garden do dads to put up, all kinds of trinkets and neat stuff, no room to haul it home but it was such fun shopping and gathering inspiration. They had a carousel with hand
carved horses on it was watched that for a while it was fun, we had a snack at the trolley car converted in to an espresso shop.

I got a tee shirt in the gift shop and had our KOA card so I got an additional 10% no tax in Montana love that! That was great I’ll wear it on my birthday. (It’s labor day weekend.)

Dh watched the movie they had here and I did up the laundry in KOA have laundry facilities that’s another reason we like them. I had a neat conversation with a gal on the construction crew that drives steam roller we talked about driving rigs and motor cycles.

After that Dh & I soaked in the hot tub and went for a swim in the pool after that we went to the ice cream social and had the huckleberry ice-cream a local favorite here it was wonderful.

Weekend Festivites & Summer Fun Planning.

At the dog wood festival
http://www.lewistonchamber.org/
I saw the River City Church
http://www.rivercity-church.org/
dance team getting ready to do a performance.
The dog wood festival was so much better than in years past it has really improved and grown. I used to do spinning and weaving demos with our spinning guild when they first got it going. Two of the guild members were there with their own booths. This is the kick off for a lot of the crafters for the beginning of the season of the craft fair circuit that begins now.
Energy and excitement was way up close to the high level.

Fair weekend It is also Asotin Co.Fair fair.

Fair weekend here is always a busy one, we have the only spring fair in the state, there is a rodeo, carnival and other attractions.
It’s well attended. Dear son and his girlfriend took the girls yesterday. They had lots of fun seeing the animals and other attractions.

Next weekend is the renaissance fair in Moscow
http://www.moscowrenfair.org/, lots of them will be up there. We may be able to go to that one also. The farm needs to me checked on, mowed, and I want to see the daffy’s ( daffodils) in bloom we can stop by on our way through town. =D

Humor:
Today I found #2 dear grand daughter sitting at the table eating a bowl of pickles! I think it must be time to fix breakfast, or do a store run. {Ya think? LOL!}

You know you are making progress when the kids or grand kids read to you and you fall asleep instead of the other way around!

When we were young we played in the dirt.
Now that we are adults we call it gardening.

Boat news;
The new motor is in the boat!
We are looking forward to summer actives like wake the snake
http://www.customweld.com/, dear son and his friends have done that, then they need to practice what they learned and dh pulls them with the big boat and of course more camping. Dh has some vacation coming next month.

Jet Boat tours are gearing up for the new season.
We went on this one for one of our wedding ann. before we had our own jet boat it was fun. http://www.riverquestexcursions.com/ We did this one and stayed in the B&B over night.

The guys went up and did sturgeon fishing for father's day a different year. Fish count http://www.lmtribune.com/fishlink.htm It’s a blast!

A new boat building co. is in the area, it is like the 5th one here now. We have family working there I think I’ll have to check and see. It’s called HCM Hells Canyon Marine they are not on line yet.

Gardening
Dh Dear hubby came in with a surprise to show the dear granddaughters, he had gloves on and a baby dove. He explained to them how he put those on so not to get his scent on it. So the parents would not reject it.

I did not get any roses this weekend they were picked over and I was out of luck. But I did get some silver thyme, tomatoes, Siberian iris and a pink iris bulb and snap dragons in a new color called apple blossom. I got those planted in the afternoon.

I told hubby the front yard really needed help and he needed to move the small bass boat out of the side year and put in the carport because the grass was dieing under it. He heard “get the bass boat out and go fishing” LOL! He did that after putting weed and feed on the lawn. =D

Training with the Marines

Are we having fun yet?

This weekend I found my self training with the marines there were some marines at the track walking with 45 lb. packs on. I could keep up with them walking only I did not have a 45 lbs pack on! We were walking a 7.5 min. mile.

I just got back from a 2.75 mi. walk dgd went with me ½ way. We walked to a school parking lot so she could do some laps around the track and practice her figure 8’s and turns in the parking lots. Then her dad came a got her just when she was running out of steam! I walked back home.

I walked to the school to take a book for dgd to return to the library.
A two mile walk yesterday. Mowing is on the list today or tomorrow for exercise, this gives me some much needed solitude!

Biker Blog Vacation 13 Three Lowell, Id.

Biker blog 12 Vacation

8-28 -98 104 mi. Lowell Id. 2 bikes one trailer.

I packed up the saddle bags on my bike at noon dh got home by 4:00, so we loaded up the sleeping bags on the passenger seat of each bike. It was a hot 96* in Lewiston, Id. We couldn’t get out of town fast enough! We had the bikes loaded by 4:35 a record time for us!

We stopped in Orofino, Id. For a milk shake; but the restaurant had changed hands and was not a smoke shop so se settled for a sunny delight juice drink.

It started to cool off, but Kamiah was in the sun and it warmed up again, then when we hit the trees again we started seeing deer coming out of the hills for a cool during in the mountain stream, and to graze in the lush green water. WE had a nice wonderful dinner, then we unloaded the bikes and settled in our room for the night. It’s nice we have sheets tonight and a shower! (Our shower is broke at home so this is a real treat!)

A good ride today no problems, the gas station is closed so we have will fuel up in the morning after breakfast. I brought a flash light, and night light, and a blow drier first time I’ve ever brought a blow dryer no tenting this time , a real luxury to have this on a motor cycle trip.

One of my favorite things is when we sit outside under the stars in the evenings like we did tonight. We stopped at a rest area on the way up outside of Kamiah – Kooskia saw some people swimming, the fish were jumping in the river, and in the orchard there were several deer milling around grazing. Lewis-Clark resort has a pool right off hwy. 12

Biker blog 11 Getting Ready for Vacation

Biker blog 11 More Vacation trip prep.

8-25-98 Tues.
Getting Oil
Today I rode dh’s virago to charge up the battery and got some oil for mine. It was warmed back u and was a wonderful ride. Very pleasant. Seems like I like to ride alone more and more all of the times.

8-26-98 Wed.
Changing oil

I rode my virago, dk called and asked me to ride it and get it warmed up so he could change the oil in into; I had a tape to return to a friend so I did thatoo. Dh said I could do that with his voyager too, when he calls it works well and saves him time! =D Any excuse to ride! (This is before we had cell phones.)

8-26-98 Thurs.
I rode dh’s voyager to the river to warm it up while he was on his way home, change changed oil in it tonight We packed our bags for vacation today too. We are really excited about our trip. I got a flash light. Oh yes one thing I forgot to mention about our trip last weekend we went by a big heard of big horn sheep bedded down right by the road in some green grass. It was neat!

Biker blog 10 Weekend Campout & Vacation Prep.

Biker blog 10 Weekend camp out & vacation prep.

Mon. 8-17-98 Wallace, Id. / Pinehurst, Id. Campout prep.
I rode dh’s virago and charged up the battery in it, I rode out past the landfill and up on top, up the grade drove out to where there are farmers fields. Most of the crops are in now. It was good, a great ride. I got some errands done after that. I paid some bills and that was fun on the bike. I parked mine for the week it’s due for an oil change. Dh’s blue bike is nearly due too, I got oil for his. I will have to get oil for mine Fri. I suppose or when ever I’m back over town. There is a group campout this weekend at Wallace / Pinehurst at the KOA we are looking forward to it.

8-18-98 Errands
I rode dh’s virago to return a book and a tape to a friend and stopped by the library on the way home. That was fun fifty miles already this week.

8-22-98 prep.
I’ve spent the last three days getting ready for a group campout, there are two pot luck group meals. I made up a green salad and a potato salad and got a peach cobbler from a friend having a bake sale. I think they need to have their heads examined having a potluck on motor cycles but they did not ask me when they planned it!

I had to get another container to bring things in. The rectangle one fit the best for stacking. These containers need to have a good seal on them. It has to be the right size to fit in the trunk. We packed this morning dh washed the trailer last night.

Note: (The new kit for the trailer came this week and the cargo top carrier so we just have to put it together. Not in time for our vacation, a good winter project.)

We planned out our vacation itinerary last night and made our reservations. We are very excited! It will be in Western Montana and at KOA in their Kamping Kabins. We will have the two bikes and to trailer this year. 1,400 miles is the route WOW! We can’t wait we rare leaving on Friday =D Yippie!

Well back to the campout it seems like more work than the long trip with all the food preparations, ha! Got the old trailer and bikes loaded, they don’t leave until 11:00 so it’s too soon to load the ice and ice chest. I had a few minutes so I decided to jot down a few thoughts. I’m a little surprised that this journal is half full at this point, were riding more now!

The weather cooled off this week that has made life a lot more bearable! We even had some rain last night and lightening a thunder shower too. We are SO-O glad the day dawned bright and sunny it’s so beautiful, a hint of smoke in the air from grass fires and lightening strikes not far from here. We are taking two bikes and the trailer of camping gear to Pinehurst KOA 130 mi.

8-22-98 Sat. To Pinehurst KOA 160 mi.
We stopped at the white pine tree pull out for a sandwich lunch. There were four bikes with trailers, two without, one with a cargo trailer , fourteen people , one dog. Potluck supper lots of good food kabobs salads galore, cobbler and ice cream for dessert for dinner. It was great fun and visiting and an after dinner walk to see the dam & day-use and fishing areas. Later on we enjoyed an evening campfire and roasting marshmallows, and had s-mores . Four tent trailers one regular tent ours. It was great to see the stars and a beautiful clear night sky.

Sun. Tent Camping & St. Regis, Thompson falls, Lolo forest Ride
450 mi.
We woke up to a hazy day, with a few clouds moving in. Pancakes bacon eggs & ham; sausage for a lite breakfast not quite enough to go around of any one thing. Gals did most of the cooking with the exception of a couple of guys. Guys did the clean up and the others that did not help cooking it.
(I whined about having to cook on the weekend!)

As we packed up and discussed our ride for the day it began to sprinkle and cool off. We dropped the trailers off in town and my bike, it needed an oil change went to St. Regis and Thompson falls Montana through the Lolo Natl. forest on a loop. It was a beautiful drive.

Wet and cool and some rain and wet roads part of the day. Then back to pick up my bike and the tent trailers and cargo trailers. And we came home the scenic route. It was a long day. Every one was exhausted cranky, cold, and tired. They had not slept that well. (We stopped for a nice fun hot lunch & it poured down rain. Rode in rain or wet road off and on for 40 miles.)

On the way home further south we traveled the drier and warmer we / it got. Made a scenic route detour around some construction, and saw a deer beside the road. Stopped for fuel and a key I’d lost out of my chaps when I went to the restroom on the way up. =D Yea that had it! Had a good trip he rest of the way home. We had to hustle to stay on the out skirts of the storm that was passing through over head. My headlight quit working! =(

The highlight of the day was a doll one of the guys had borrowed and used as a prop. And took photos of at various points along the was (the doll was from his sisters house.) He returned the doll and will make up an album for a Christmas gift. (Some kind of family joke.)

We saw a museum at an old mining town, we got to travel on a new road that was awesome and fun. We were in three states that day. After the 105* weather we had been having the rain and cool was a shot and we were not used to it yet! No one is ready for fall yet! We traveled approximately 450 iron butt miles; we dh & I do not usually travel that many on the weekend in one day because he drives truck during the week and he likes to enjoy doing a more relaxed pace on the weekends. He suggested next time 3 days and the lop in Mt. on Sat. And then ride home on Sun. to break up the mileage.

One think I really loved was seeing the wildflowers at the campground that were new and in bloom, it was really special to see them lavender and pink blue and red other flowers were blooming too bachelor buttons and poppies.

One joke I heard was really cute: when the fire alarm went off a five year old did not miss a beat he yelled “Dinner is ready!”

Sun. 9-10-98 Ride to church and group ride
Yesterday we took bikes to early church Nazerene where other members of the Voyagers club go. Dh took his voyager I took my virago. We have friends from the motor cycle group there we stayed for Sunday school. Then went and did a bit of shopping before we went for a group ride with the voyager club.

We meat in the orchards and went to Lawyers Canyon, there were seven bikes we had a picnics ride and stopped for pie at a cafe there in Winchester, Idaho. We saw dh’s great aunt there and he gave her a hug she was delighted. We came home down the old grade at Winchester it was great hot though.

The summer weather is nice but hot! We were so glad to get home and relax, in the cool of the air conditioning. dh polished up his bike in the afternoon on Sat. it was wonderful to see it all spiffed up and shiny.

This was a wonderful weekend, we rested on Sat. we really needed it. The ride Sun. was wonderful. I was really needed to get out of town. We stopped at a store and I got some yarn for a couple more knitting projects baby blankets.

Our neighbors made it home safe and sound from their Sturgis S.D. trip yesterday too.

8-11-98 Ride to Work
Dh took his motor cycle to work today. He left before day light with his lunch and work case all strapped on the back on his new luggage rack. It is neat that it is working so well for him. I gave him a good bye kiss and saw him off with a wave. It was fun to see him excited about using it!

New trailer kit ordered

Dh ordered a new trailer kit and cargo carrier for his motor cycle this month. We are excited to ge that and start working on putting it together. Hopefully in time for our vacation.

8-20-98 Dive bombed by a bird.
Today I drove my motor cycle to town to take a roll of film in there is a lot of gravel on the roads they are putting down fresh oil on the side streets and on a lot of the main through fares. So I had to be really careful when I turned off the main drag, I made one detour because of it. It is warming up not earlier in the morning again.

I came home the long way that was nice a dove hit me on the top of a head while I was driving home just out side of town. There was a fire truck just a little bit ahead of me. I followed and could see the smoke billowing up and rising in to the sky. Yesterday I rode out to the bass hole and saw a fish jump! When I came back they were doing road work on the bridge and the flagman and guys grinned and waved when I came back through it. That was a fun day too; every day does seem different. =D

Sat. 8-15-98 Breakfast ride
We both rode bucks blue bike, love the intercom on it it’s fun with the mikes on our helmets. We rode up past Wilson banner ranch, where they raise fruit. It was nice and cool out in the morning; we went out to breakfast afterwards.

Biker blog 8 Snake river ride

Biker blog 8

8-02-98 Sun. P.M. 2 up Snake river ride
We both got on dh’s bike and rode out to the Y in the road by the fishing hole. The ( Snake) river was low and we could see lots of fish feeding on the bugs in the water. It was shot we were thankful for the shaded areas, and some cloud cover. Short rides are great when it is so hot out! We went to the new A&W for dinner it was grand!

We got wind/sun burnt and were not out more than on hour. We forgot to put on the sun sunscreen, a hot dry wind reflecting off of the rocks. Near 100* Could parch home one very quickly! Sun on our eyes on the way home made it difficult to see, we like A.M. cool breakfast rides better for this time of year.

8-4-98 Tues.
Solo Ride Part way up the grade on hwy 12 out of Clarkston

This morning I rode dh’s bike Virago (1100) out past the park and up past Wilson/Banner fruit ranch to see what was in stock and in season posted on their sign part way the grade. It was wonderful and cool. I came in town and rode around and near a nursery I stopped at the hay’s produce and got some fresh peaches and bulbs to plant, and then came on home.

It was a great ride the produce stand was right across the street from the Macscycle.com motor cycle shop too. I met some other bikes headed East makes me wonder if they are going to Sturgis, S.D.

8-6-98
Riding to work
Dh took the motor cycle to work the last two days, his virago. He said the rack he installed a few weeks back is working great and he even had room for his coffee on it too! So it’s awesome that it is working out so well for him. He was happy about that, and takes the small cooler with him now too.

I got the spedo cable for my bike yesterday . I can’t wait to have my bike so I can be out buzzing around on it again! It is so much fun in the summer to do that!

8-5-98
Ride to church
Dh got off early and put my new speedometer cable on my bike. I took it to church, it was awesome to be able to ride it again. I had really been missing it. It was so good to get back on it and ride again!

It was dark when I got up to the heights I was glad I left when I did. The sun set was beautiful when I came home the golden glow in the western sky was glorious. The fresh air was really good for me.

Holiday prep.

HOLIDAY PREP.
Also known as using your gifts and talents:

On the 25th of each month I try to do at least one thing to get ready for the holidays this past weekend I was at a few yard sales. I found some things to use. I have been gathering supplies for holiday giving. I found some baskets and decorations to paint that will go on the tree at Christmas time. The dear grand daughters and I have realized that school really cuts in to our craft time! I’m saving some things to work on when school is out. We like to paint on projects out side. I got a box of fabric and some of it is holiday print I’m SO excited! I can barely contain myself. Some of the fabric was already cut in to circles for jar gifts.

I found small jars for some RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) gift baskets I like to have a few on hand I’ll put some bath salts, dish clothes that can also be used in the tub, a candle journal, small tuck in gift books I find from time to time, note cards and fabric gift bags I sew up.

Jar gifts have been wonderful tuck in gifts for sharing with those you love, or as door prizes of club or group meetings, and shower gifts for prizes when playing those get to know you ice breaker games. I’m using plastic peanut jars this year they are non breakable and lighter weight so cost less to ship.

At the thrift shop I found a book on hat making that’s some thing I’ve been wanting to try for quite some time I can’t wait to use this one. I have some Dalmatian fleece fabric that will be a prime candidate for this.

I’m going to be enjoying some time in the sewing room this summer. I always look forward to retreating to the cool of the basement in the peak of the heat of the summer season. Now is the time to find some of the best bargains for close out of season Christmas items. With Mother’s day just around the corner too this is a great time to get some things together.

Our boat was a 30th wedding anniversary a couple of years ago. We did this instead of a cruise, a cruise sounded kind of boring just sitting there. It was a great gift because it’s NOT been boring! We had it built after doing research and shopping. I was thinking a used boat until we learned the ropes I still think I was right about that by the way! LOL!

Dh calls this the sport U of boats. The first summer was awesome, we camped with family along the river and had a blast teaching the grandkids about learning to swim, roasting hot dogs on the beach by the river, fishing picking black berries gave us fun summer memories to enjoy all winter long. We took some fun trips with the boat up the river, and down to the dam. We camped with friends.

We had a fiberglass boat before named Titanic II we did have to get a new prop after hitting some rocks with it once but never had any big problems with it.

We took the new boat up to heller bar and stayed at a b&b for our anniversary the first year. That was great www.Vicandonna.com, we caught lots of fish that day.

We have added a small 12' bass fishing boat dh uses it when the other one is in the shop which has been quite a bit lately. On our the maiden voyage with the big boat somebody {not me} forgets to put in the plugs, the boat is good because of the sub-pump, but takes on enough water to almost take the truck in the drink with it! There is enough weight to kick off the emergency break and the truck starts to roll backwards, the door hangs up on the dock and we have to get a different door for it. I hop in the cab and jam on the breaks dh start yelling at me directions how to put it in four wheel drive something I’ve never done before to drive truck and boat out of the water. He thinks it’s MY fault because the break has come lose NOT! {Okay I count that as sinking the boat time number one!}

After a close encounter with a rock at the end of a wonderful labor day weekend camp out with a jet boating group. We hit some rocks and had to have it in for some serious repairs. The boat in front of us that "knew the river" hits these rocks too. I call this number two. ;D Son said this doesn’t count because it was never under water, his friend says it only counts if it’s in the shop, it was in the shop! So this counts to me! I decide I’m NOT going up river any more until dh (dear hubby) has had three good runs. He goes up two times things are looking really good. I’m trying to get past the fear of the rocks etc. and all that and have worked through it pretty well. Then guess what? Read on for more adventures!

They get the boat up and running last summer then in mid-July another close encounter with rocks that opened the hull up like a can opener with an eight foot hole behind my seat to right before the fuel tank. I was not there for that trip I was home doing granny duty. (Babysitting grand kids.) It was under water I call this sinking the boat time #3 (d did not stand for dear on that day!) dh does not count this as sinking the boat either. So what IS sinking a boat I ask? Not a good question for some reason he gets cranky when this topic comes up. For me this counts as strike three and your out, time to get out of boating! We are not in agreement about this topic! {Note: I never had this much trouble with motor cycling!}

By this time I am no longer holding any romantic ideas about boating! I could also title this "why I hate boating". I have a love hate / relationship with boating I love it when the water is smooth as glass and the motor is purring like a kitten. There are snakes in the rocks up river, wakes that knock you around when skiing or wake boarding and you get bumped banged up and come home with bruisers each time out.

When I tried to go tubing, new rule granny can’t do that with grand kids until she learns how to ride the tube. Opps! Big lesson someone forgot to show me how to do that, I thought you just hang not! So back to the beach I go with my lawn chair magazine to sit in the shade.

I do love to fish and the “soft” water on the lower end where there are no rapids! {I hate rapids by now} However I like to go on the tour boats they don’t tell you how many times they have wrecked, or sank a boat, and it’s not yours if it does happen.

Dh is trying to console me he found a guy that sank his boat five times ! That’s supposed to make me feel better? This is not a contest!
Some how his logic escapes me! LOL!

Last summer we were out in the river with a bunch of other boats watching the 4th of July fireworks, some guy in this large yacht comes barreling down the river and comes nearly up on the fish deck before he sees us, nearly missing with only inches spare. {More heart pumping moments.} Dh is puzzled at why I want a quiet forth at the farm this year! LOL!

We have yet to catch a salmon, I got mine at the deli! LOL, dh took some fun pics with it anyway. We are awaiting a new motor to be delivered and installed as I type this. And the rest of the family are out on the small boat there is not enough room for all of us and I get a few minutes of peace and quiet.

Wish me luck as I gather my courage another season summer of ‘fun’ boating awaits us. No we are not bored yet, and the new has not warn off. The challenge of learning the river is calling dh, but on my phone it does not ring through, I did not “get” it!

As they try to get the big boat up and running for this season, we have fun at the “bass hole”. Fishing from the bank this year. While the big boat is in the shop, dh had them add two new radios, a temp. gauge that shows the outside temp. that goes on a truck dh picked up at the truck dealership. They are amazed at the boat shop of the ways dh has come up with to customize this boat. We have added swivel air ride suspension seats in the front for the driver and passenger. Swivel folding seats are on the high fish deck on the back.

The rails are tall and we were going to have some more fishing pole holders added to it for dh’s birthday but dh has tweaked my order and they are going on the side of the boat now. Big ones for holding the sturgeon poles. This jet boating started out as a retirement dream to do guided fishing tours. I fell for it hook line and sinker! Hum I wonder if the name “Thrill seekers” dot com is taken yet! This has blasted boring right out of our lives and we have stories to tell, dh took a friend and his brother last year and they got a bunch of pics of the last snafu. He wants to go again this summer! Go figure!

I’m rooting for a sled the boat with a center console a fresh start with a different boat. But dh is not in favor of one of those. The new bass boat he got as a basic boat his Christmas gift last year was just a trailer and hull, then he added swivel seats, electric trolling motor, and wide 12” of red tape on the side, some stars the guy that makes them could not believe how much this had improved the looks of that boat! It was sitting on main street and it created quite a bit of interest. That mfg. is no longer building boats.

Sometimes we take the boat over town and drive around, one time we were at dinner with it and the kids show up we were out for our date night that they spotted the highly visible boat and dropped in to say “hi”.

For some reason dh thinks when we go camping we have to take the boat too, so we take the camper down and then come back home for the boat! It generates quite a bit of interest.

We have slept in it at the camp ground before we got the camper and when we unzip and remove the stern cover suddenly people start coming around curious, asking questions and want to know what it’s like on the inside.

At the boat show this year they wanted us to take it up and put it in the parking but Dh wanted to use in the river the weather has been mild this spring.

Church is at the park.

Yesterday when we were at the dogwood festival I saw the dance team from River City Church where we attentd. They were getting ready to do their performance. They start here and then take it on the road for a summer missions trip. They have went to England, Canada, Mexico. Some teams have made trips to Japan.

Dogwood festival & Fair weekend Show n Shine

Yesterday was an awesome day the weather was absolutely incredible.
I felt a powerful Dynamic Explosion of energy surge through my veins.
I had a strong guiding from God this week I had an energetic mission
I have been focused on some serious car pool duty the dgds dear grand daughters have been the center of this week’s activities. We have infectious laughter their high energy level is contagious.

I’m SO enthusiastic about life these days and I’m passionately enjoying my life. My attitude is great and it really helps when I get enough exercise this week that was walking hiking and mowing.
Today's activities will include walking around the collage for art under the elms at the Dogwood festival, there is a show and shine and a bizzillion bikes are in town this weekend. It is supposed to be up to 80* today, it was 75* and hot yesterday.

I took Bo #2 dgd dear grand daughter to town with me while I did errands her glasses came in so we went and picked them up,
She helped me do a bit of banking, and shopping at the thrift shop she found another purple princess shirt, and helped me to pick out some pants, toys and other items we had a blast! The time just flew by and we had to head back up to the heights to get her sister Pooh #1 dgd from school early release day today because of the fair.

I went to a yard sale after that and hit the jack pot a box of fabric for five I had used up all my fabric this is great I’m delighted with some other fun crafty items things to paint for tree ornaments, some baskets to use for wedding decorations dil (daughter in law) to be was asking about. Lots of other fun items too many to list in this entry. As I type this I can see out the window and a squirrel just ran up the maple tree in the front yard.

Today we are going to take the truck in for new springs go to breakfast and then take in some of the events in the area, and I want to get at least three more rose bushes to plant.

Dh (dear husband) wants to get the batteries in the bikes and get them going. I may have been sitting too long yesterday last night I got a charlie horse in my calf muscle. I ended up on the floor dh could not figure out what was going on! I was howling after I woke up enough to say something it took my breath away, I’ve not had one of those for a LONG time! Mom used to take honey vinegar and some other herb I’ll have to ask her. I have gotten a letter ready to mail for her today too I just need to get a stamp on it and mail it today.

Dh said that the new boat motor has not shown up yet. Oh well we can go motorcycling. In the year 2000 I got a 98 Vulcan 1500 classic and we had a blast on it, dh has sold his big touring bike. I sold my Vulcan last summer due to lack of use and we bought a camper. We still have the viragos we call them our town bike but most of my big trips were on my 1,000 however.

Biker blog 7 Hell's Gate State Park

Biker blog 7
7- 28 98 Trip to the park & neighbors wining
Bike show and Shine Trophy

I took Dh’s virago out for a spin this am in the cool of the morning it was wonderful. The breeze off the water was so-o nice and cool! I rode out by the park today followed some person really having a hard time keeping the cars between the lines in his lane. On my way home I stopped by the building supply store that was I’d not gone to that one on a motor cycle before. They open early so that was neat to get that done early in the A.M.

When I got home the neighbor gal came out to the fence packing as two and a half foot tall trophy that the won at a show–n-shine plus two hundred and fifty dollars. She was very pleased! The have a new Harley. She won about that much and a helmet the she sold at a really earlier this spring so they have a Sturgis fund for when they go next month she said.

7-29-98
Hells Gate State Park Lewiston Id.

Dh got off early so we both rode on his voyager, took it out for spin we rode out to Hell’s Gate state park and took a spin through there and then down to the new A&W fuel stop in town for a rot beer float, and burger for dinner. It was a super supper.

It was hot though it had gotten up to 101* earlier in the day but dropped a few degrees when we went for our spin. Heat from the road and the motor plus a hot wind did make it rather miserable. We were glad to get home to our aid conditioning! This is what we waited for all winter we keep telling ourselves.

7-31-98
Tooling around town

On my way to town twice yesterday I saw motorcycles all loaded up with gear at two different service stations heading out for Sturgis, South Dakota. Was two deer on our way to town to go out for diner. The sunset was beautiful. I saw on older couple each were driving their own Harley too. Bikes are out every where gathering up to go on rides together.

Biker blog 6 Ranch Ride

Biker blog 6 July 98 Wed. 7-22-05
Around town
Today I did some thing new I put air in my own tire in my motor cycle I can’t believe it ahs taken me thing long to do this front and rear tires take 40 lbs of pressure on this bike. I rode out to my favorite spot across the river, it was fun remembering when dh & I “blew the carbon out” on Sat. in the same spot and after that I went to the $1 store. And I was exited to get some lotion for our next trip and some blank journals and computer paper fig newton type cookies and cracker. It just barely fit into my saddle bags! It was a fun trip . What I love is how each trip is different, each day is different and special. The surprise and excitement are what makes it awesome for me!

7-25-98 Trip to the ranch

Yesterday I took my bike over and got it fueled up for the weekend. Got some bananas and hauled them back in my saddle bags. Stopped at a yard sale and found a set of rice bowls and a vase of pottery from a potters wheel, that had a local florist’s shop sticker on it. Got hem hauled them home in my saddles bags that was fun! My finds go with my colors and got here all in good shape! The bananas did too. I got my bike cleaned up for my weekend trips or excursions. Today we got up early and went up to the ranch it was a wonderful drive. We took both motor cycles. We went up a grade. Saw a fire, in motor of a “duley” truck with dual tires one ton, the horses were fine. we had to stop the flagger flagged us on and an ambulance was coming someone messed up we were directed in to the other land and the ambulance was coming the should have had us wait a few more minutes. We saw three people sitting on the wheel fender of a horse trailer. They were resting there were six horses tire her and there calmly munching grass like nothing else in the world was going on.

We always enjoy the drive up there. The mountains, the tress the green meadows, the wild flowers, and sweet peas that are blooming along side of the road. So relaxing and refreshing for us. We felt renewed! It was perfect weather for doing that in the morning anyway.

On the way up we stopped and got some photos of buffalo a guy is raising they were by the fence, so we could get a good shot. They were right next to the road. We looked at the ranch and had a tour of it. And kind of said farewell his uncle sold his part, and moved to New Mexico.

We got a tour of the place and visited with dh’s uncle too. We had a great time telling stories we all laughed it was great! I took deli chicken and it worked great, we had it with peas corn and ice cream there. That worked well remember to do that again. Maybe with baked chicken next time.
The creek was almost dry. More of the road paved that was good to know.
We headed back home in the afternoon and stopped twice one for gas the other for juice. It was hot and we needed shade and a break. It was hotter and hotter as we came off the grade into the Lewis and Clark valley. Parched hot sun burnt and tired we stooped at one of our favorite burger joints for supper on the way home. That was great we were famished!

On the way home I hit a reverse pot hole, (bump) made my bike go a tad bit air borne‘ really jarred it good. I remembered thinking I hope everything stays in tact and attached.

Before I got home, just past the Washington state line my speedometer cable busted. So I need to order another one of those We have had to install on before but I think its was for my other bike 750 Yamaha Virago. Any way I’m glad it waited until we were almost home! We stopped for fuel, it was o hot even in the shade the sweat just rolled off us. It was 103* that afternoon! We made it home safe and sound. And that’s the best thing!

http://hypertextbook.com/bent/7.03.shtml
I rode my motor cycle out past the park, but this time it was on the other side of the river. Another beautiful crisp nice cool morning. It was wonderful I rode down the new road they opened up this week; now paint it was all fresh and clean! Spotted a yard sale on the way down. At the stop sign I was surrounded by truck traffic, one coming one ahead of me one behind me, we were all waiting for one that had the right of way then a another one came from the company works for. It gave me pleasant memories seeing the trucks, and smelling the exhaust made me think of when were owner operators and I was driving long haul over the road. There were log trucks loaded we were following today, they turned off a the port of Wilma.

All the truck traffic was on the read wolf crossing bridge. It was neat because I was not intimated at all. I was rather enjoying it. When I was waiting and stopped at the stop sign on the bride I had a great view it is quite a ways up in the air that bridge. I rode out to the junction in the road. There was the river on one side with such an awesome view, reflecting the blue sky rugged rocky terrain of mountains all up and down the gorge like this is here clear to the ocean, it down flatten out some. One pond looked very inviting for fisherman, particularly bass fisherman. It had cattails and bull-rushs, still water it was as pretty as a post card! I was wishing I had my camera with me!

On the river the water was rippling from a little bit of wind today, I prayed for some friend’s that live up on the hill to be safe from rattle snakes. It’s a hot year and the have been bad I have heard several accounts of close encounters. I dreamed about them last night it’s not unusual for me to have pre-knowledge of stuff through dreams.

On the way back I enjoyed the scenery and saw a guy stacking lumber on the green chain at one of the mills Bennett Lumber Co. by the road. I stopped by a yard sale but not much room in my saddle bags. I found some navy blue and white striped denim type fabric, 8 yards I bet! I got it for only $3.00 it will make a great quilt back or comforter for the camping in the tent. Then on home to unload my treasure!

It’s hot already by 9:00! I’m loving these early a.m. jaunts on my bike. I’ve needed to ge out. I spotted a black tee shirt with a Harley emblem in it. I’m hoping to get it next time I’m out and about on my bike!

Sat. 7-20-05
On Sat . we both got on our motor cycles and did an early a.m. ride dh brought his touring bike. We rode out to the cat tails pond he heard how much fun I had and wanted to go too, it was great, nice and cool. We had a wonderful time chatting on the air using out cb radios. We stopped for breakfast on the way back home it was a beautiful morning. We had a great time.

On Sun. I strapped on my boots chaps and took a spin out past the pig barn that collapsed in the last rainstorm. Up the grade to Cloverland, I saw two trees that were blown over their hearts were hollow and rotted away, but leaves were on them. Rather strange looking, the road was washed out in one spot as will as a driveway. Lots of damage here and these, deep ditches were newly eroded away. That’s how the term gully washer came about. Rocks had been moved. It was pretty impressive to see it.

Dh worked on his virago all Saturday. They almost had the whole thing torn apart The seat was off the signal lights in the rare were off, the back fender was loose. All to install the larger read luggage rack. He got the holes drilled and got it mounted and back together.

Sunday a.m.

While I was out for a spin dh was out and installing his cb radio. Sunday afternoon we took both of the viragos out for a spin and we went to fields spring. Followed a local guy on a little Honda 250 up. He had gobs of interesting stories “whitey” he said to call him. It was a hoot to listen to him! He sure gave us lots to think about. He showed us the springs in the shade it was wonderful. We came home and bar-b-qued.

Bikerblog Week 4 Intl. Bike Show Seattle / Silverwood

Week 4

Seattle International motor cycle show Jan. 97
We went with the group of voyagers in a 12 passenger van.
All kinds of shiny new bikes were there on display. The new gold wings have a lower seat and I could touch the floor without my tall boots on. I tried out all kinds of bikes. The food was great but not awesome. It was good to share with others that love the sport of motor cycling as much as we do. The shopping was fun we got a couple of late Christmas gifts riding gloves for me. That night the ferry ride was absolutely awesome like in the movie you’ve got mail with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in it.

Sat. 6-27-98 Two bikes

Dh took his motor cycle to work with tools gear in an ice cream bucket in the saddle bags to hold the tools in the trunk. I met him on my bike after work where he works at the truck depot. We rode home together, we stopped by our favorite Mexican place on the way. Had a the place to ourselves! It was a lite lunch. His tires were low so he had to air them up across the street at the gas station deli store, one of mine was low too. It was an absolutely awesome day for us both!

Sun. Sunday Dinner Ride 2 bikes

After cutting his hair (I used to be a beautician) his helmet fits better. It got good and hot out today too. We went up by Field’s Spring where we go up some fun twisty roads and over the top to the bottom of the canyon and we had a lunch at Bogan’s it was a fun quaint place. We had a nice lunch of chicken fried steaks. It was small place not so big city crowded the feeling was great!

He took his voyager, he polishes up the wood grain dash up on this Sat. with the stuff he got for it last weekend. I took my virago. We went in to the park was full. Anatone days was last weekend so it was full of people up there to celebrate that.

The trees sure smelled good. Our bikes always attract a lot of attention every where we go. People always come up and ask questions, how much they cost, where we are from, how far we travel about the trailer about the options on the big bikes cruise control, am fm radio the dash.

I saw a deer grazing on the hill side beside the road in the middle of the afternoon, it had big ears and a dark color to the hair, it was a mule deer.

Thurs. 7-2-98 Errands solo

I rode my motor cycle today to do errands, went to the drive up window at the bank. I’d always want to do that on my bike. =D I went to Clarkston and did some window shopping and errands too. It is great to get out early on my bike and beat the heat, it’s cool on the bike and a great treat for after my walk! I absolutely love it!

7-7-98

I rode my motor cycle across and around the heights to check on our lot no forth of July fires on it this year.

Sun. we took both bike out to charge up the batteries in them.

Dh took his virago to work today.

Road trips ~ snake pit cafe'

We had great trips last year to Kellogg Idaho in the Wallace area that we enjoyed all the touristy stuff to do rode the Gondola: went to tour a silver mine, ate at a place that was in a movie Dante’s Peak about a volcano with Pierce Bronson in it. The snake pit was the name of the café.

We went to the car dealership that claims to be the biggest in the us dodge Dave Smith we went antiquing, and to a museum, drove around the lakes and checked out a new camp ground. We fished the KOA at Pinehurst, Id. Feed the ducks there too. They have neat bridges over the water to walk on, it looks better every time we go through there. It’s right off the freeway to / from Montana. We checked out a different camp ground only ten dollars a night across the road too. Wild Waters and Silverwood amusment parks up in that area too. I like to get huckleberry stuff for gift baskets for the holidays too.

Biker blog week 3 Flying boats and other adventures

6-21-98 95 mi. two bikes Flying boats and other adventures

Today was gorgeous when we got up, we went on a ride with two bikes. It was awesome! Beautiful blue skies, the wildflowers are blooming up in the mountains we went to Winchester, up the old grade. We saw wild sunflowers, wild roses, and some in flower gardens along the way. The hills were beautiful and green, the smell of the forest is exhilarating. We went 95 mi. today. We stopped at a burger place called Cadillac ranch we like to go to up on top of the prairie. The fields were all green pea, wheat, barley is all up and doing great from all the rains this month. As we are eating we are able to watch deer graze in this fields that was neat.

When we came out of the cafe dh decides he going to lead he has this grin from ear to ear. "Uh-oh" I think to myself, he heads off through the gravel to a dirt road through a field. It’s dry but someone has went through in a truck when it wasn’t dry and there is a 6” deep rut in it! So we try to get to one side the side we picked had a low spot with standing water. So I back up a little ,to get a better spot to cross over the rut to avoid the mud hole. So I do a little dirt biking. On the first try I don’t get the front tire out but on the second try I do. The back tire is a little more challenging, I pour on the coal (throttle) to it and dh said I had it sideways but am able to walk it out. Creeping forward. So THAT was interesting! =D
On the way home we see a cop just over the crest of the hill, we are behind a slow rig.

Further down the grade almost at the bottom a sheriff and state cop have three kids pulled over. There are crouched in the shade.

Then we take the cut-off go up another grade and we end up behind a small size pick up with a boat bungie strapped in the bed. The bungies break and wind picks up the boat and it is flying right for us. Dh clamps on both brakes and I smell burnt rubber, and see blue smoke from the tires. And miraculously the boat misses both of us. I slow down, and gear down and switch tracks, and get around the boat in one lane on the right track, and the pick-up that has stopped by now in the road.

Dh yells at the guy something – I can’t tell what. I yelled "BOAT"! At the top of my lungs as I go by. His window is down & I slow down so I KNOW he hears me! WOW! Our hearts are pumping and adrenalin is surging through our veins! This we can do with out!

We enjoy seeing baby horses on the way home and discuss the events of the boat incident over the CB two way radio. We stop at the park on the other side of the river where we can see swallows nest rock we decide not to tour through the park and just get our bearings for a few minutes after that close encounter with a flying boat that almost took us out, we are grateful to be alive, upright and intact! We head on home, go through a detour and arrive home the rest of the trip is uneventful after stopping for fuel and a soda.

Dh changes oil in his bike and we sit down and discuss the thrills of this ride. Earlier we made reservations for our 4 th of July trip! I can’t wait for that. It’s out 25th wedding anniversary too! The big (KOA) cabin which we were hoping to use is not done so we told them to call us when it it.

I saw a deer grazing in the field when I took some apples down for it from our tree when I got home, I walk to the corner ½ a block form her and can see it a couple times a week. Some times I can see four of them. That’s wonderful! What a fantastic weekend!

6-23-98 30 mi. solo trip

Yesterday I rode dh’s virago, it needed to have the battery charged up, it had been sitting for a couple of weeks. It was fun I felt better when I got back it is good for relieving stress. I rode down on the other side of the river past the park to the turn off where you do down to the dam. It was great weather nice and hot! Storm clouds gathering made for an awesome sky view. The sun reflected off the river looking so blue like the sky.

The river queen steam boat was chugging along on in, and further on down a barge was coming up to get another load of wheat! A very interesting thirty mile trip, neat that it is so close to home too! I got two miles from home and realized I’d forgotten my wallet. So I had to swing back by home for it. =D It was a fun ride.

6-24-98 Wed. Tooling around town solo

Yesterday I took a drive on my motor cycle around the heights were we live and went up by our old church it’s the highest point in the area. I could see out over the whole area it was awesome as breathtaking view. I rode around some of the other streets and looks at homes, the river, lawns and flowers. It was fun, the fresh air was great I felt renewed afterwards.

Biker Blog June 98 week 2

Biker blog 6-10-98 1 bike 30 mi.

Yesterday I rode my motor cycle out to he park to charge up up my battery and enjoy the beautiful weather and the view of the river. I had to drive through some dirt that had been left there from the storm that came through Sunday. There was some road construction also and I drove in some more mud there too. I had to clean up my bike up when I got home.

6-15-98 Triangle rally
Last weekend was the triangle rally here. Three motor cycle clubs did it. This year somebody dropped the ball and there weren’t every many vendors at all. It was very disappointing. Last year there were gobs of them it was a lot better.

Installing Wood grain dash

We were in the motor cycle parade. We watched the goldwing motor cycle drill team we call the wings from Seattle. Every one enjoyed that! In the morning I helped dh install his wood grain dash on his bike. It was windy that did not help, the dash turned out great! It’s teak wood, and really dresses his bike up. It was exciting to get that I helped him and see it all come together was a joy! It's beautiful!

Sunday it was a gloriously gorgeous out we got Chinese take out and rode on his bike out to a park at Lenore a twenty min. ride from Lewiston. We drove across the Cherry lane bridge, a one lane wooden one bridge. We stopped and looked down at the river flowing under us.

We had a nice leisurely ride and a picnic. I even remembered the picnic table cloth! It was fun. We took the scenic route home, and stopped by a hardware store, I went to the book store next door to look for stuff to clean his new dash with. All in all it was a fabulous weekend we had a blast and it got over with too soon!

6-17-98 solo ride 30 mi.

I took a spin on my bike out to the park, blew the cobwebs off my bike and out of my brain on the way it was great! =D People were out at the beach, the park looked almost full. I saw two guys eating lunch on the tail gate of a pick-up at the gravel pit on the way home, they were just staring and gawking, I was snapping my pink wind breaker. I love to imagine them wishing they could be doing this and discussing it! =D

I taped and saw Biker Women, a show of four women who go to Sturgis S.D. We had seen in before but it was great to see it again very inspiring.

It is an awesome warm sunny day! I woke up excited when I saw how nice it was ‘cause I knew I’d get my bike out! My shoulder is better we were discussing our summer bike trip. There is still snow on top of the mountains in Montana. August should be warmer. Nevada was the other option. We went to the store fueled up my motor cycle and got an ingredient for making diner.

Sat. 6-20-98 New motor cycle trailer kit came

I got oil for dh’s bike today over town at the bike shop and stuff to clean his new wood grain dash with, and a blue ice chest to match his bike and trailer, also some chrome trim to go around his license plate holder it has lights on it. He took a couple of pictures of me on my motor cycle in the front driveway today.

It was beautiful and hot outside
clear blue skies a perfect day for riding!

Summer Motor Cycle Reflections (1998)

Summer motor cycle reflections Our travels ~ 1998
{I found some old journals and have not entered them on the pc yet.}
From My motor cycle Journal

June 1998 200 mi. 1 BMX bike races

We rode to Walla Walla, Washington 100 miles from here to watch our son race BMX bikes. We rode Buck’s bike voyager XXII (12) 1995 Kawasaki two up {because my arm and shoulder have been bothering me}. We had a blast and yelled like idiots at the races fro the kids racing. We enjoyed the first nice weekend we had, hot weather it felt great to sweat! =D Dh (dear husband) got a sunburn on his face and head, we forgot our hats. We did have long sleeved shorts for sun protection that really helped. We took up ½ of roll of film this was before digital cameras came out. We saw 27 deer on the way home what an awesome day it was for us!

Tues. 40 miles. 2 bikes To ten mi. up river
Dh’s 1100 virago Yamaha he drove that up: I drive the Kawasaki XXII the big touring one with a trunk. I needed some practice with it. I was just going to go for a little spin 10 mi up and come home. We went up past Asotin creek to where the pavement ends and tuned around he checked to see if the water way clean enough to see any fish yet.

Then he was having so much fun he went up the river to 10 mi. where we saw mountain sheep on time. He was having so much fun tooling around on the bike he did not see my signal I was ready to turn around and head back, or my second one, or my third one either. (Or at least he said he did not see my signal.) So I just turned around at the wide spot and parked. He came back about three minutes later. He figured it out. I said I want to swap bikes and ride the cruiser the big one was too hot, and he cold go on up to the end of the pavement if he wanted but my arm was hurting and I needed to head back.

He headed back too lickekty split having a ball on all of the twisties in the road. The river had been over the road but was down, it was still really high and moving fast. It was a beautiful ride an awesome evening nice of him to get off early so we could go on a spin together!

Mother’s day 191 mi. 1 bike Rattle snake grade to Ore.

We went up by the Rattlesnake grade on a pie run for dessert, to Oregon and up the other side of the grade Buford. The hills were an awesome shade of celery green. We were two up on the big bike blue the Kawasaki voyager XXII. Took a new road until the pavement ended to check out some new campsites. We saw 14 head of mountain sheep. It really made our day! What an awesome ride!

Thurs. 6-4-98 20 mi. 1 bike me solo In Town ride errand running

I turned in the film this a.m. went on my bike 1,110 Yamaha virago. On a jaunt to town to pick up the film; and come the long way home out to Chief Timothy State park by the river to make sure the battery was good and charged up.

On the way home I stopped by the library to show the librarians my photos. =D Having a great summer so far. I have a great life this is awesome. Showed the neighbor also rides her own bike, just learning, he has a Harley they go to Sturgis S.D. every few years and she is getting tired of that she said.

Favorite memories on bikes
I got my 1,110 in 94 I was 40 that year! =D I used to ride his 175 Honda in the dirt when the kids were babies. And the 110 or trial 90 when we were dating in high school we were high school sweet hearts, hum that was 31 years ago. It’s hard to fit all of us on the bike so we gave it up until they were grown. I’ve been riding big bikes 10 years now. My favorite vacations have been the 1479 mi. trip to glacier natl. park we took both bike and the trailer. Camped most of it. Saw the glacier, unimpressive snow on a mountain, and baby mountain goats so used to tourists they just grazed as you walked on by. Beautiful scenery thou!

Most memorable part of the rip was riding the road to the sun highway and the arsse puckering winds on the back side of the park! (There is a joke about getting the seat out of your backside with needle nose pliers bikers tell. Sh-h don’t tell dh I said that here!)

I learned I needed a windshield! We only had a few miles of rain thou so that was good. We were gone nine day that trip it was neat! That was Aug. 96

The other most memorable vacation to date was last year our trip to Yellowstone natl. park in 97 we were gone ten days and traveled 1,658 miles of absolutely awesome scenery only 3 miles of rain!

We alternated between KOA cabins, tent camping, and 2 motel nights. We saw all kinds of game in the park every thing but a moose. The northern loop had all the game, mud pots and gysers. Yellowstone falls was beautiful! We took tow bikes and the trailer. The road construction kept it from being boring one day. I stopped put both my boots down and just waited for him to get through it was pretty slippery with the trailer. I did fine though with out one. I got some interesting stares from the construction crew as I waited for dh to plow his way through four inches of loose dirt in mounds on various points. We were glad when that section of the road was done! And we were on to the free way!

Sat. 6-6-8 New radio
Today dh came home with a new CB radio for my motor cycle. He installed it too! The other one went in the truck last fall. He drilled holes in my windshield I couldn’t watch that part. It turned out great though!

I was using one on our long trips before. I love to talk, and broadcasting m voice over the air waves is even more exciting than just talking, so I do not worry about what do say! The words just come ! It is such fun! Helps to break up some of the long miles. I do not have a music radio on my bike. We took my bike 2 up over to our favorite Mexican café not far from home. It was great to get out on the bike.

Gravel in the corners is hazardous with the road construction and the gravel pits not far from here we are constantly watching for new spills of gravel!

I’m loving the beautiful day we had, dh drove his virago to work to switch CB and other stuff from on truck to the other. (He drives truck, I used to team drive long haul over the road with him when we had our own trucks.) We missed the ride to the wall memorial for the Viet Nam vets to we spaced it ~ we had totally forgotten it. They had a good turn out. Bikes were everywhere today out and about over town!

Picnic ride 6-7-05 2 up on his touring bike

After discussing out plans for this summer and it was too soon to tell which days he will get off and what the length of our trip should be. We got some KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) to go, and both were on his bike.

We got almost to the rest area Lenore 13 mi. outside of Lewiston and the sky looked like it was about to open up and just down pour on us, it was raining on the hill across the river we got a few sprinkles on us, so we turned around and decided to try a different park closer to home we needed some pop anyway.

We went to the visitors center near Lapawi on the Indian Reservation, they had no pop (soda) I was able to clean off a bug splattered on my eyeglasses after we put our helmets back on. We headed back to town, and went through ¼ mi. of wet reads. Ended up at the rose garden park it was beautiful! A few sprinkles and a few wind gusts, and we were finding ourselves enjoying our food having a great time, walked around the rose garden park there are gorgeous this year from all of the rain!

Then we came home cloudy, few wind gusts, and a little bit of wet roads gave way to thoroughly wet roads, then to water standing on the road, gullies in the fields evidence of a recent down pour, then water and mud running over the road 3”-4” deep. We drove through it. Everything was drenched, big puddles more evidence of a recent down pour!

When we fueled up every one was talking about it. Their adrenalin was up. They cold not believe we were dry! My new motto “I don’t do boring!" This was great we stopped and got one of those bake at home pizzas too it fit in the trunk of the motorcycle for dinner. I brought a pizza pan from home to stabilize it on too. That would not have fit on my bike! His is a luxury bike with a built in cb, cruise control, hard saddle bags, and radio controls for the passenger! Some of the wonderful extras it has. No cigarette lighter to plug in and blow up an air mattress however.

A Mountain Bike Ride I Will Never Forget

A mountain bike ride I will never forget
By: Matt S. Our son Used with permission.

We went for a mountain bike ride last night. We left from the bike shop at five there were five of us we had two pick-ups a Nissan and a Toyota, we went up Asotin Creek and dropped off the Toyota by the ranges station at the fork in the road. We stuffed all five bikes in the back of the Nissan. Along with myself and another guy we rode up twelve miles in the back of the pick up in the rain we got to the top up in the blue mountains. We started our ride about 7:30 p.m. equipped with headlights and back packs with a little food and water and a hunger for adventure. We started on the trail, riding, pushing our mountain bikes at times because of the deep mud and even snow in a few places.

The darkness came a lot quicker than any of us expected. Because of the think storm clouds over head and the timber we were riding through. We pushed on as quickly as we could. So on the headlights came, and on we rode then things got a little freaky, the thunder and lightening came along with the snow and rain. We kept looking for another trail we had to connect to, but it ways so dark everything looked different too, the guys who had been on the ride before. It was my first time on this trail. Finally after riding in circles and back tracking looking for the connecting trail, the thunder and lightening got a little scary, since we were on top of a mountain in a clear meadow. The rain started to really come down, so we took cover to wait out the storm and to think about our options. We talked and checked our supplies, fig Newton’s, crackers and cheese, and other snacks we had brought.

We already got turned about coming this far, and were four miles in and uphill to go back the way we came so no one wanted to go back, but we did not want to get on the wrong trail and end up down the wrong canyon. We discussed our options we could spend the night if we had to. We had lighters and a candle to start a fire but on one was ready to give up yet. With rain coming down as hard as it was it was our best bet to keep moving to stay warm. I said a payer that God would lead us out. So we all walked our bikes along the meadow where we thought the connecting trail was in line about twenty-five feet apart I came across a trail that looked like a cattle trail, I called the guys over they thought it was the trial but were not sure. We couldn’t see where the trail went except into the thick darkness.
Finally we caught a glimpse of our surroundings in a flash of lightening. It was the trail that had eluded us for the last hour and a half. We all shouted with joy and rode as fast as we could trying to warm up again.

The storm kicked up again, down we rode, more rain, then come marble sized hail. There was no place to hide so we just rode on as fast as we cold hoping for a big tree or anything to hide under for a few minutes. The ground was soaked an so were we, but we knew where we were going. I ate it in one of the corners wrecked. My front tire couldn’t hold. I crashed and used my face for a break! It was just wet grass, I slid for thirty feet. I hoped the guys behind me could avoid running me over. I scrambled off the trail as fast as I cold. Back we went down the hill. Finally a tree, we stopped took cover and waited it out.

Surprisingly we were all laughing and joking around. For as rough as the rip had been we were all upbeat and had good attitudes. The hail stopped the rain slowed so we were off again. The ground was slimy, slippery so now the going was very slow. Riders falling here and there, mostly just making them muddier, if that was possible. Finally we came to the road, now it was smooth sailing three miles down to the truck with one other guy we were ahead of, we looked at our cyclometer just under fifteen miles. I looked at my watch, 11:30. I thought we would have been back by eleven o’clock.

We still had a thirty minute drive to the truck up on top and then an hour from there to town, we discussed the arrangement of the trip to retrieve the other pickup. The Toyota could only fit two or there in the cab. I decided I was not riding up that mountain again in the back of a pick up. We decided that three of us would continue riding down to keep warm, then the other two would go get the other truck and pick us up when they came down. Fifteen minutes later the rest of the group made it. They had a flat and had to change a tire on the bike. We told those guys our plan it sounded like the best plan. So they rode down.

About three miles down the road the hail started again, stinging us. The other town guys spotted a shelter and yelled to me. I turned around it was a roof where hey was stored, we were thankful we sat down piled loose hay on us for warmth. I moved a bail of hay to block the wind, “Hey this is cozy.” I said.

We decided to wait for the others out of the weather. Thirty minutes or so later, we saw their lights so we turned on our bike headlights so they could spot us. We loaded up and drove home I arrived at 1;30 A.M. This was a ride I will never forget!

Book Review The Creative Call

The creative call By Janice Elsheimer Shaw publishers

I’ve read this one a couple of times and loaned it out and now that it's back maybe time to read it again. The pastor's wife at church in charge of the dance team recomended it to me. The one thing I want to say is that this book delivers! It is like a Christian version of the artist’s way.

Journaling and other creative exercises help to jump start your creativity with exercises in each chapter were very productive for me as I worked through this book. A great chapter on budgeting for future work in your art was an unexpected treat.

It is set up for working through alone or with a group. The nine week format is great for use as a group study with a retreat at the end to plan is fun. I liked the focus on prayer in this book too. It’s a great help for dancers painters writers gardeners and other artists too.

Deck and Patio Fun

Deck and Patio Fun

Deck and patio fun in the shade and sun.
I like to spend time on our deck it’s wood 12’ x 14’ with a grape vine wrapped around the rail of it uncovered open to the sky. In the mornings I sit at the round table with an oil cloth garden design covering as I sip my coffee or tea. I read my morning devotional there as the sun comes up it is the most wonderful moment over the tree tops.

In the afternoons on the nice days I like to sit on our patio and write in my journal about the days events. I look at the backyard and garden enjoying the green of spring and the color of the pink peach, white apple and fragrant edible plum flowers, and those of the purple leaf plum as they bloom. I enjoy the taste of a glass of lemonade after I mow here as I rest to catch my breath enjoying the sounds of the ice tinkling against the glass. Birds sing in the tree and I watch them as they visit the feeder under the eve of the house above the deck.

There is one spot we are careful to avoid it is needing replaced on the deck under the table. One of our daughter’s old boyfriends was sitting at family dinner on a warm summers evening and it gave way he to quite a start and his eyes got as big a saucers. We laughed so hard we had tears rolling down our cheeks, and our sides hurt. Dear son choked on his corn on the cob saying "oh yea you have to watch out for that spot".

{The kids are collage age at this time.}

In the fall grapes ripen deer graze on them and the apples in our yard. Chimes tinkle in the breeze over the secret spot hiding my angel statue standing guard nearby tucked in the grape leaves, you have to look closely to find her. We can see the hot pink crab apple blossoms in full bloom now from the deck the red climbing roses are just now beginning to bud.

Daffodils and pansies adorn the herb beds near the patio. Tulips are scattered around the yard in bright spots of color at various locations, and other focal points are also visible from the patio, or in my chair where I sit to rest, these inspire us as we relax after a hard day of work or play.

I helped decorate my sister’s deck for her wedding reception, with white netting, bows. Baskets of silk flower arrangements were on long tables the guys had hauled over from the church. She cut the cake in the shade just off the deck. That evening deer came out of the trees and bedded down in the yard.

My granddaughter likes to play on their porch in the big whiskey barrel planter with brightly colored pansies growing in them using her toy shovel. Her baby sister laughs and coos as as she watches. The have a child’s two seater lawn chair with a beverage container spot that hold their bottles!
