11-27-98 Hopes and Dreams
We went to a the motor cycle shop it is difficult this time of year. Because we can't ride much I’ve almost decide on a Nomad for a new machine. I need one at some point. A new goal we have been dreaming about is to go to Alaska on bikes some time and mine will need a fuel supply larger than I’ve got now. So one other option is a bigger custom tank. I’d love one with out a chrome fuel cap because it reflects back into your eyes as you travel on long trips on sunny days it is not fun at mid day to have that glare in your eyes as you travel on long trips and cause you aches and eye troubles if you wear specks!
Sat. 12-5-98 Toys For Tots Ride
Dh went to the toys for tots ride today. I was under the weather and it was too cold for me to go to it and I sent my toys with dh he was the only one on a Kawasaki voyager there, one other dirt bike and the rest were all Harleys he was excited to do that he got a late start he thought he had missed it. So that was awesome to see his enthusiasm!
12-12-98 GWRRA Christmas party
It was wonderful we had excellent and was awesome food. Fun, friends and fellowship. We chatted has some laughs and exchanged gifts and gave for a needy family it was wonderful to give back to the community. Every one seemed to have a really good time.
The gals decided not to do the secret sisters for next year. I think that is good because it seems on drops out and someone is with out a gift each year. So that was a relief some one always seems to get hurt feeling over it. The door prizes were fun this year they were wrapped.
12-15-98 GSV Christmas party
The G.S.V. Gem State Voyagers had their Christmas party in a member's home.Turkey and all the trimmings pot luck style awesome food some mighty good cooks. We had a white elephant gift exchange and that was a riot. Especially when a couple of the guys got girls gifts they milked it for all it was worth. It was hilarious! We laughed until we cried. They had parts of a video of some of the rallies and trips before and a couple of games we leave early we felt fortunate to be able to go.
12-22-98 Season Winds Down
Now with zero temps the batteries are out of the bikes and tucked safely in the basement we are awaiting summer riding season, planning rides trips and jaunts in our calendars. Planners come out in Nov. So we get the vacation schedule dates set; kick around a few ideas for places we want to go. Where we have not been, and where we want to go back too. This has been a great year and much fun time and time again we look back over the fun we have had, it’s awesome to remember the fun days laugh and enjoy the memories.
12-28-98 dh is my passenger
I drove my motor cycle to charge up my battery with dh as my passenger. We went to the Yamaha shop in town. To get oil for his virago, so he could change oil for his virago, so he could change the oil in it. It is due, they did not have the filter for it so I have to go back next week to pick it up when ever they came in.
It was actually pretty warm for December between 40* - 50* so we rode around town it was brisk even with my leathers on. It’s great to fight off the after Christmas let down, the fresh air and outing on the bike gave us a while new perspective. He picked up a brochure on the new 99 line of Yamahas and spend the next two days studying it. I hardly got a peek at it.
When I did crossed them off my wish due to the wire spoke wheels! So I was done with in about two seconds flat! Look out Nomad here I come! =D We’ve gotta get to the other cycle shop in town and see if they have that one put thought or not jet.
I have not gotten used to the retro 50’s look on the bikes yet. I still love all the chrome and cruiser style bikes. But change is inevitable for us. Mine rides better with a passenger; or a load. I am however excited to see how the mono shock handles and feels. I hope the lean angles are as good as mine so I do not have to worry about scraping in the corners like on dh’s touring bike I hate that sound! ;D My partner always razzes me about the sparks flying off the voyager in the corners!
12-30-98 Solo ride 20 mi.
I discovered the battery had not been removed one of the little "accidentally on purpose" oversights, well it was sunny and pushing 50* degrees outside so I had to get out on it I putzed around town to get some fresh air in me and charged up the battery. Twenty miles and nearly and hour later the temps started to dip again as the sun went below the horizon and I headed for home after fuel stop I was two other bikes out doing the same thing. It was great. Oh, I do love this sport is it summer yet?
That’s the end of this journal:
I will make a note here that the saddest day was when a couple died in a wreck they were hit by on coming traffic passing in their lane returning from a cross country trip on thier bike they were active in one of the groups we were in.
The best day I had was when we found me a bike a Kawasaki Vulcan 1,500 c.c. classic retro style bike that worked wonderfully for me for several years then we sold it after we bought a jet boat and bought a camper.
Our interests have changed now and we do not ride as much now granny needs a sidecar for the grandkids lol!
