I had a five foot green pole that was a iridescent green color, I’ve had this one for several years it was a combo set we got it on a trip to Sully, Montana one year when we are on a trip we rented a K.O.A. by a lake.
This green pole went unused for several years standing in the closet, then we got a boat and I started fishing again. I tried one of the guys ugly sticks these fishing poles are clear on the end the last foot or so, and this dark gray color on the rest of the it hence the name ugly stick, graphic grey the color of lead in your pencil. Dear son had a new seven foot one and once we tried that one dear husband was hooked!
Dear son has a reel with a trigger on the upper part of the reel. (I have not been able to figure that one out.) My finger is my trigger I hold the line with it. I am going for more of a low tech. real at the moment anyway.
Last year we got new poles and reels around father’s day and the selection seems to be the best. I went for a bright yellow seven foot pole with a nice reel with 3-4 ball bearings in it this is a sweet set up. The pole goes fishing even if I don’t the guys like it too. It’s a Shakespeare Durango model.
I got another Durango seven foot pole and this one is red. I have my eye on a fancy reel with a trigger under the reel; these are the adult version of a kiddie push button reel to cast with when I was a kid we used. The grand kids are using this type now. I saw a white pole combo set up I want the pole, it has a push button real for one of the grand daughters. I’ll swap it out and put it on the six foot green pole.
We have three reels and need to be restrung with new line this year. Guess what I found in dear hubby’s tackle box? A spool of fishing line he had forgotten was even in there. And some extra bobbers I seem to be be loosing them right and left.
Dear son gave dear grand daughter a fishing lesson on the bank when we are on the boat father’s day this year. I was fishing from the boat she reached over and gently pushed down the rip of my pole and said “there you go grams” She got that part of the lesson. (Keep the tip of your pole down.) Dear son decided that teaching one child at a time was enough. I took the other one berry picking. =D We had a blast!
I have a blue pole it is a heavy duty pole for salmon steelhead or sturgeon fishing. A red one, the white one will be good to go with the red white and blue color scheme of the boat. We had to add more pole holders as our amount of fisher people has increased on the boat now.
This started when I said I saw a six dollar pole at the store that I wanted, the guys were teasing me and then some how the discussion turned to an argument of sorts more of a light hearted debate. When I said it’s all in the real. It does not matter the pole. (As long as it’s a graphite pole.)
So off to the store we go, I get the pole, the reel will have to wait. People smile when we pack a red seven foot fishing pole to the check out on father’s day weekend. So when we took the boat out yesterday one side of the boat had the guy’s ugly sticks, and the other side had a rainbow assortment of the girls and my poles.
With at least eight poles on the boat you could tell as we let the dock we were in for some serious fishing fun or on our boat. I rigged up the red pole with a reel I had here from my green pole, the reel squeaks slightly on in it.
Plain Jane pole, ugly stick, poles with fancy expensive reels or rainbow colored fishing poles, fishing for fun pleasure or serious no frills get down to business get it done type of pole. No matter what type your fishing pole or other fishing tools I’ve seen some guys using bow and arrow to hunt carp with fishing tools come in many types styles sizes and colors pick one that suits you.
My one reel that squeaks needs to be updated, tweaked or oiled, sometimes we need to update our plans, techniques, knowledge and get new places to fish.
