When I was twelve my parents moved to a small ranch of three acres. I call this the money pit house because it needed so much work. I now ask myself what were they thinking! Even though dad was a construction worker and carpenter working full time that house was about as close to a night mare as I’d seen in my young life.
We had to take out two big old trees that were rotten in the center when we The locals were horrified that we were cutting down “all” the trees. But we did not want them blowing over in the wind on the house.
I was helping split wood with a sledge hammer and splitting maul, can you tell we were loggers from a logging community? Insert tool time grunt here! Argh argh argh ~ Yea right; I knocked off half of my front tooth splitting that bee tree that was no longer “free” wood after the dentist bill crown for the cap to regain on my smile.
We got bees and I used to help dad with the bees and was only stung once.
That was the same year they built a chicken house and we raise chickens. We would get 50-100 at time if memory serves me right keep them warm in the wood shed until they were pullets and put them out in the pen the chicken house became a necessity because a big hawk took up residence in the big tall pines on the neighboring property. We butchered out chickens with our grandparents on Sat. for Sunday dinners through out the year. Rosemary and roast chicken and dumplings were one of my favorite meals! Yum!
The neighbors down the road had small fancy breed of chickens and their rooster was always getting out I caught it for him one time and just tackled it he had this coat hanger he was going to use. I earned a box of candy for the holidays that year for catching his chicken, he later became a relative seems we moved between dear hubbies relatives, so we tell this chicken catching story at family reunions now.
[Sh-h don’t tell] Farm boy that I married had to be instructed on the finer points of cutting up a chicken I always thought I’d be getting lessons on that not giving them! LOL! I guess he only learned how to cut up beef.
After I graduated high school they got pigs my sis got in on that.

Rabbit Alert!
It was mother’s day at dusk the fryers got out. Forty or more rabbits were on the loose. They began to run and kick up their heels in our back yard as we devised a plan. Over the back fence the neighbors laughed and pointed, and offered suggestions. One New Zealand all white doe zipped by and our son dived for it he only had four white hairs to show for his efforts. I was nosed from behind as a bunny tagged me with a look of you’re it!
A Californian, these have black ears and nose, dashed across the yard, that had been transformed in to a sea of white. Our son and daughter helped us gather up the armloads of squirming bunnies. We got the rabbits contained again.
This was a regular part of morning and evening chores our children did getting rabbits back in their cages. I got used to hearing “I got one!” While I was fixing breakfast. Team work was essential, angoras are easiest to capture before they are sheared. We have devised signals to let the family know a rabbit is on the loose. “Rabbit alert!” Was what we would say as we all scrambled for the door.
Rabbits escaping is a common problem for rabbit raisers, and the name Houdini is a favorite name for these escape artists. One way we used to catch rabbits was to place cages on the ground in a V shape and heard the rabbit(s) in to it. The bunnies see the cage as a save haven and home and it was pretty effective. We also put three in U shape and a board to slide across the open part.
Our daughter made a rabbit trap for a science project is was a apple on a stick variation of the carrot on a string. An A was received for the project grade. We would distract them with goodies from the yard grapes, and other fruit they would be busy munching way and not notice as we caught them.
The like to hide in the neighbors rose bush, sun them selves in the road, under the cars and other vehicles. The berry path and petunia bed was the most favorite for bunnies and the most dreaded spot to recover them from was the brier patch also known as an Oregon grape bush. The forth of July was not a fun holiday for the rabbits the noise of fireworks startles them nearly to death.

Our First Angora
Our first angora my daughter received as a birthday gift for her 4-h projects that year. It was a fawn colored English angora doe. She was so fuzzy and cute we named her Peaches and could not resist taking her home. We learned to groom this darling doe and my I learned to spin the wool of these lovely angoras we are raising. As I added more and more color to my collection I warned up to the idea of learning to spin. So one spring I saved up for Ashford spinning wheel I knew was for sale. There was a spinning guild in our area and I’d talked to one of the members and find out more details. My wheel sat in the living room gathering dust for four months while I gathered books and read up and gathered courage to tackle another project.
I was waiting for school to start so I would have a moment or two for my self. A fellow angora raiser shoed me how to operate the wheel, I spent the next week trying to make yarn! I worked until after midnight one evening and was finally able to get some strands to hang together. I was so excited to get half a thread of yarn I shouted whoopee! Add I woke up everyone up! I learned to spin on angora combings, sheep wool is much easier to learn on! I now that now!
I’m knitted a sweater with handspun silk angora for the holidays Christmas! I finished up a lap robe last week I made up from some local sheep wool.
English angoras have the finest wool, when grooming, we would do a health check, take note of the over all vigor of the animal, the English angoras have extra fur or hair on their face and ears. The require the most grooming. We clip their toenails, mostly for our own protection from being scratched. I loved the French angoras and added a pairs for my own spinning needs.

Rabbits!
Raising rabbits was so much fun! I always wanted rabbits was not allowed to as a child. One of our neighbors had a bard and was raising rabbits commercially. He had about one hundred does female rabbits, and five bucks male rabbits. She was shipping fifty to one hundred out each week.
I could not afford cages as I was unemployed at the time, so I bartered work for cages and stock (bunnies). I started with New Zeeland Whites; then we got the kids into 4-H and had Rex, Satins, French Lops, Holland Lops (mini lops) and were busy caring for bunnies! We shipped some rabbit on our own, and could pay for feed. We traded bunnies for other breeds.
My daughter cleaned under pens sacking up fertilizer and sold in town by the sack. She had some customers who would take all we could deliver! We changed to buckets and broke the price down when we ran out of sacks. Rabbit fertilizer can go directly on plants with out harming them. (This is one of the secrets to the way things thrived in my yard then amazing the neighbors at the way things grew in our yard they thought we could grow anything.)
We later got angoras. I got a spinning wheel and learn to spin on angora clippings, We entered rabbits in the local county fairs, as newspapers daily deliver routes kept us close to home. I’ve entered wool and angora yarns, I’d spun up that was much easier than animals to feed and water twice daily I learned.
I’ve enjoyed French Angora rabbits. We had a quite a collection of colors. The children learned a lot raising rabbits. It was great therapy, we felt better after feeding and caring for them. These give me warm fuzzy memories. I have pictures of the kids with their bunnies and ribbons and trophies they won fitting and showing rabbits at the fair.

My Herb Garden
My herb garden started with some multiplier onions also know as Egyptian onions. One of my first herbs was a start of mint from the old homestead. I’ve moved it a couple of times.
Even though mint likes a shady cool moist place, field mint does great not far from here too. I’ve found that it does the best by the water faucet. My mint flourishes there. Later I as able to add lemon, apple, and orange mint to my mint collections! I cannot tell the difference in spearmint and peppermint by the fragrance with out the label I’m lost.
I’ve always wanted to make potpourri so I set out to find some lavender and other fragrance herbs. This started my interest in herbs. I was amazed at the variety of herbs available. Each green house and nursery seemed to have a few different varieties.
My herb collection grew I added culinary herbs to my garden for cooking. I dried them in the kitchen and the laundry room, setting some on the counter and on the kitchen and laundry room, and other on top of the fridge. I hung some to dry on nails and on the cloths line in the basement. There dried herbs and potpourri are great for gifts and special occasions.
I search garage sales for containers for herbal vinegar, potpourri jars, and fabric to sew sachet of fragrance. I found some muslin, and calico for draw string bags for the dried herbs.
If you enjoy flower and vegetable gardening you will find herbs a wonderful addition! I’ve tried to find a few herbs or fore fathers had in their Victorian gardens.
The local library was a great help in getting several books on herbs I requested from other libraries in the area. For handy reference I keep book marked internet sites for handy reference. You local nursery can visit you of these.
I discovered that herbs had been used for many centuries. Cultivated by monks for their healing qualities. Herbs can be grown for pleasure, cooking, seasoning, health beauty and fragrance. I’ve also used some for natural dying of wool yarn and cloth.
Most herbs I’ve grown like in a well drained sail in full sun, perfect for our location here. The do well where other plants will not. They do not require a lot of water of fertilizer of extra care. If you have a black thumb try herbs they can stand it if you fort to water them and are very forgiving if you neglect them.
There is a large variety of herbs. I enjoy my trips to the garden shop to acquire my latest find! You never know which one will have the plant that you have searched long and hard for. I’m still looking for some indigo to do some dying with.
I wanted some scented geraniums and on a return visit to a favorite nursery. I was elated to find the lemon and rose scented varieties. They look so unlike their blooming cousins. I had over looked them on an earlier visit.
In acquiring herbs do not forget mail order catalogues for plants and seeds. Also inquire of friend’s family and neighbors for starts. Often they have abundance and are more than a happy to share. Since some herbs have a weed like quality of over take a bed.
I was surprised to see thyme and basil in different varieties and colors. There can add visual interest to you garden. Planning is important height and type, soil temperature, climate are all factors to consider. Some herbs are annual and need to be replaced each year. While other are perennial and come up again in the spring. Some reseed reality each year.
Many herbs are grown in theme gardens and are a great point of interest on a long vacation. Some for prayer gardens in early missions, for fragrance gardens grown for their wonderful aroma such as lavender. A culinary garden has herbs of flavor spice and seasonings. While a Victorian garden can be grown with an emphasis an old verities and native wild flowers in your area.
For additional help check with your county co-operative extension office, and your nearest university or collage and see if they have an agricultural department. They may be a great help to you for local soil conditions and weed control. Here a few herbs you might like to try lavender, thyme, oregano, rosemary sage. I hope you have as much fun with your herb garden as I have had with mine good luck!

Purple Dog's News Letter
It’s been an interesting time here today.
I'm back from the farmers market
Got the grandkids some cookies, and ice cream treat @ dear son's suggestion.
One of the vendors is going to get me a start of Montana lavender. It has bigger purple blooms. Speaking of purple! We went to a fun shop today with candles home made soaps and lots of other fun goodies today. I can’t wait to go back and see what else they have new in.
The purple dog is fine recovering from serger-y and is light lavender in color with a red bow bc (because) dgd (dear granddaughter) picked that one out. I said you all want to know how the dog was she said he was fine and slept well. Purple dog's friend ballerina doll is also recovering from stitches. She fell and burst out her tutu. Oh my! Things are all better with her now and she is resting comfortably now too.
Pink bunny is traveling with dgd today.
And went to farmers market today. Did manage to keep it away from the produce I closely guarded the green peas. We suspect pink bunny is pink helping out at last spring getting ready for Easter got too close to a dye bath.
More Stuffed animal fun. They are playing hide and seek now.
Other purple dog friends have been put in storage for fun times later on next spring grey ' phnat ( elephant) and brown bunny, tan lion, and one other grey doggie.
At the farmer's market I found fresh green eggs from Andocanda chickens we used to have them on the three acre ranch we had when I was in high school I can call it a ranch bc (because) we had animals and chickens count as animals!
Food police were here yesterday:
I have the small loaves of bread for food police people to put in the freezer for the holidays they will get these as gifts now! I'm a bad girl! And loving it!!!
My Dr. said I can have it ~ Dr. Phil's program recommends diet soda
I'm following it pretty closely or not... and I chose it because I felt it was the most balanced and realistic for this household. But they had it coming after yesterday’s stunt coming in my home and saying to get asspertame out dear son is a diabetic hello! I’m getting sweets for holiday giving for the gifts for the food police I still can't believe I did that!
Reporting in… I guess I’m on parolle or something for infractions incurred last week I had a cookie and scrambled egg for lunch. I walked in place watching an art show, and had a nap ie exercise...Our 32nd wedding Ann. next month will possibly have me posting from the slammer ~ cookie hour at the motel we got for the night also has a hot tub the regular rooms were booked.
Now I'm trying to get dh (dear Hubby) to let us have some pigs at the farm. He said "no" his dad would roll over in his grave! LOL! We eat more pork than beef I think. I need ham to go with my green eggs! I guess I'll have to settle for sausage with a kick.
The guys were talking "Tractor" at the BBQ last night. Dear son will be looking for a mower deck to use behind it, see what happened when I went on strike and said I was not going to push the mower up there any more!
…I'm back from the lower regions of the house I put away some books from last month's zone work moved them out of the living room, and cleared off the ironing board. (Guess how much ironing I’ve this month? Hint: this might be a negative number! ;)

Worm Walking
We went for a worm walk today after it rained the dear granddaughters like to walk and look for worms to go fishing with. Today they took umbrellas and pretended it was raining because the rain has stopped. We really needed the rains because there were some brush fires one hundred miles from here and the smoke was starting to blow in, the rains have put them out.
The rains also watered my scented geraniums, apple mint, lemon verbena, rosemary. I need to get some more creeping thyme. I would like to get a one or two dozen lavender plants I’m still trying to decide where the best place for them would be. These would be great for the wedding. There was a gal at the farmers market with a tray of reasonably priced herbs I wish I would have gotten the whole flat of them maybe next weekend. No lavendar however I was wondering about the chocolate mint. We will be going back maybe she will have some next weekend. Last week at the midweek farmers market in town here one of the vendors had some huckleberry bread for sale some small loaves these will be great for the freezer for to have on hand for gatherings.
Link is for what I'm reading Daring to be Yourself by Alexandra Stoddard.

My Weekend
The dusk settling outside and have the day's progress to remember. We got a lot done chores mostly I’ve been working on getting the yard shapes up. Hubby got the rest of gutters that our son started and did half of them earlier in the month. I got the stuff I’ve pruned and in piles in the front yard.
The apricots are green and after they are done we will need to prune that tree up or take it out, I’d like to replace the peach tree we lost a few years back. And the current bush needs to come out I’ll put in some more roses in it’s place. I have the gardening progress well under way now. We have the roses growing and will put some more in later. We had a garden wedding and it was great but a few days before the wedding a big storm blew in and we had to clean up the limbs out of the yard before the wedding that definitely was not on our list. There were 104 people at the wedding the weather was perfect.
I remembered that when I was taking a breather sitting on the swing earlier this afternoon.
I am going to have a gift of a block of time tomorrow this is a delicious thought for me I am thinking of the delightful things I can do and what I’ve been wanting to do. I need to get a get back pack loaded with art supplies sketch book and journal. I can do some reading and or sewing.
I had the book with me this weekend when we went to the place to get the oil change, I was actually bummed when they were done in about what seemed like six minutes, six guys on one rig got it through in double time. Then at the tire store while we were getting new tires on the car I got caught up in this show and did not get any reading done there the show was about how they have bone yards of old ships and planes that was fascinating to see how they dismantle them and re use them to make more.
In the afternoon we went to the farmers market just as they were dismantling all the booths and were tearing it down, oh well at least we know the hours. We will try it again next weekend. They had some herbs there not the ones I wanted. I think I need a dozen or two lavender plants and I’m going to put them in with some roses. I have a neighbor friend that is going to take some out. So I can have those they are lavender floribundas these will be more fun than ever green bushes!
I was delighted to sit on some drift wood while we were fishing this weekend and smell chamomile in bloom and watch fish jump in the cat tails, and listen to the sound of running water going in to a pond. It was very peaceful and I returned very relaxed. I need to go back and sketch that place. The fishing was not very good.
We watched the film on DVD the Aviator Matt Damon did a wonderful job with that part.
Dear son is going to put up some pictures of boats on the web site I dubbed it the "friends page". =D
I have some fun things to do with the grand kids and it will be hard to choose, their aunt is going to take them tomorrow. I’m like the kids I don’t know which project to choose of mine that I want to do.
I have a couple of ideas to try too. Making a bank for coins and weaving carding some wool and working in the yard are on my fun list. I was out watering tonight and the part I was working on today looks nice I’m glad I was able to get the time and effort in to that. I got the back watered tonight after it cooled off too. So that will make it even better cooler and freeing up some more time for me tomorrow.
We are planning the mowing at the farm next weekend and we were both disappointed that we did not make it up last weekend but have some minor changes we realize we need to do. This used to be a cattle ranch, dear son is going to see if he can’t get the tractor fixed so they can run it. He is a man with a mission and discovered there is a VCR & power at the farm thinks the girls will watch that. But they like to play out side with sticks, dirt and bugs! LOL!

Gardening
Yesterday I worked in the yard pruning up the leggy branches I did some in the morning 45 min. the front yard after my 30 min. walk. After working on my fragrance cupboard a small shelf I'm painting letting it dry started in the back yard and got the west fence line.
My peace rose has turned in to a rose tree. I can’t see the blooms trees are in the way so I’m cutting it back. Next to it some lilies fell over so I cut them and they made a glorious bouquet when added with some roses for the dining room table.
The apples are heavy on the tree so I pruned them up enough so I can mow under them with out getting conked in the head with a green apple! The flowering plum has mini plums on it and I pruned up a few of those branches.
By the back fence the Rugusa roses (old fashioned ) I cut back these are not getting as tall as I’d hoped. So they are going to be replaced by hybrid teas next year I think. My peace rose is doing great and the other hot pink one is too. Now we have to haul off these limbs to eco.
Today we are heading up to do some farming the guys are fighting over who gets the mower, I’m just gong to watch. Dear grand son will be there to run and play and discover bugs and enjoy his first farming experience with acres to roam. I have some books to take, and my sketch book, and a journal.
In some of my readings "Discovering a girl within" there was a family that went to a farm on weekends to get away from city life it sounded great, we are taking the camper and will try this and see if we can make it a positive experience for dh on Sun. with some fishing on the place a homestead, or down the road a bit by the bridge, he said there was no water I said you can jump in the creek. He looked at me like a light bulb went off, like why didn’t I think of that? Dear son did that after his farming job went boating in the river and came home cleaner than he left! We will haul some water too. ->Moving this to next weekend due to weather concerns.

My Days Off
Play days today was fun before I left I discovered the auto trunk closure mechanism in my old caddie would not shut off, I did not want it to have it run the battery down so I tied the trunk shut with a shoe lace I found yesterday decluttering the bedroom.
My ingenuity paid off today. I proceeded to town and dropped of a box and a basket of donations at the thrift shop and went to the farmers market and then to the auto shop where sil son in law works, he had to crawl in the trunk to fix it and I had to shut the lid some one came up and asked if some was in the trunk I said yes my son in law has not been behaving so I put him in here! I saw it in a movie and wanted to try it. LOL! ;D Then he got it fixed and I unlocked the trunk and he got out and went back to work. I got a few items at the farmers market, a gift for the girls, and some produce.
I stopped by the thrift shop found some books and bridal bubbles and a few other goodies. I’m having an awesome day. Then I had to do another errand. I got the mowing done, and thinned the apples took a bucket of them to the field for the deer. They are happy and stay out of my roses this way too. I finished reading a novel this afternoon. Family dinner tonight steak wraps were a hit and plenty to go around.

Girlhood
I was an organized as a girl kept my room and desk neat, artistic abilities were there when I was young, I had a collection of stamps, shells, and stories to tell; a tomboy sleuth wanna-be who loved to read Nancy Drew mysteries ride my bike, swim and dive at the local pool. Huck Finn & Hardy Boys books.
I was and am friendly out-going I could run a ‘tiller in the garden, split wood from the bee tree and helped build a house from the early age of five I learned to pound nails with a hammer. I possessed a natural suntanned golden glow in the summers from playing outside and swimming. I’ve always enjoyed crafts and making things with my scissors and glue and still do. I liked to do the fun stuff at VBS with other children’s playful encounters group games were fun and purposeful for me.
I had a soaring imagination and had grandeous dreams of adventurous fun, some of my longings aspired to far-reached my natural abilities. My boundless ambitions of being a rancher, log cabin builder inspired by authors like Louis Lamoure, Caddie Woodlawn, and Laura Ingles Wilder.
Reading library books as fast as I could mom and gram worked at the small library in our town and I read my way through the children’s books and moved on to the grown up sections and we got books from the book-mobile that came to town every week or two our school did not have a library. (None of the schools in the area did.)
In some of my authentic moments in my girlhood I spent skating, sledding on snow, hiking and fishing on scouts rock were. Essential to me was solitude I climbed trees watched the sunset and wrote poetry about them and other beautiful things in life. I took art classes and embraced my creative spirit.
One summer we went digging for gems Idaho garnets. Putting mud through a screen we actually found some garnets. I had an encounter with some nettles that was not fun!
I remember at I was not popular in grade school I had a few friends. In third grade I had a teacher that was a great example of how not to teach and made me hate school the next two years were hell for me because of it. I could not wait to grow up and be done with school grades, and tests!
Later in my as a preteen some how I know my diverse talents would make it hard to chose and have balance in my life. I thought you had to pick one thing and stick with it your while life. The wisdom of my youth still amazes me today as I think back.
When I was twelve our family out grew our house and we moved three miles away from being next door to the grandparents. The house had three acres, a one hundred year old seven gable house, and rock terraces the story goes that the banker had embezzled money to pay for this, and he had an oriental gardener.
The house when we first saw it had grass tall enough to bale for hay looked like the money pit, in the back yard a small fish pond and fountains that no longer worked. We put on a new roof, did some foundation work, and mowed acre of lawn to keep us out of trouble in the summers, plus an acre of garden to tend, a chicken coup, tool shed garage and root cellar if that was not enough needed attention and cleaning. Flowering trees were growing too in the lawn, gram wanted some so I dug her some seedlings for her garden. I got a piano and barely had time to practice. The next door neighbor was the president of the local saw mill raised Arabian show horses not very kid friendly. We rode with their grand daughter on a more mild mannered horse from time to time.

Summer 05
What I love about summer :
blue skies
days on the beach
picnics
fishing
swimming
flowers
fresh fruit to pick
the scent of freshly mown hay
early morning walks
seeing baby robins on my early morning walks
The first day of summer.
This year the first day of summer dawned bright, a full moon list night was glorious, our son commented that it was a nice evening and said “it feels like camping weather”. The temps. are up 97* yesterday 100* today. I got up early and dressed at 5:45 I stumbled outside, blinking my eyes to see clearly in the cool 60* temps. of the morning. The morning shade was long and a relief for my sunburn from fishing and boating last weekend. I’m collecting sun burn remedies, to use. I walked with a friend for a half of a block before she net her other friend and exercise buddy. Before I started my next section to walk I came back for a hat. I saw a baby rob in, and enjoyed my prayer time is was good today. I had a powerful dream last night with spiritual overtones and I was pondering what that was about as I walked today.
I did my full 2.5 mi. walk before dear son left and my half day of granny duty started. The sky is clear and blue and glorious today. I’m still in rehydration mode after the weekend and I’m excited about freezing water in plastic soda bottles using dear hubby’s “recipe” with by filling them ¼ full, and lay them down on an angle in the freezer for a nice cool drink when I come back from my walk and through out my day. Such a nice refreshing treat on a hot summer’s day.
Last weekend at the book store I checked on DVDs I wanted to price check for a Christmas gift but they did not have it and it was not in their system, I’ll have to check a different source. I did find an art book with a section pc art so I’ve been reading through that for some tips and ideas that I needed.
A couple of years ago in August our son built a play house for his girls in our back yard it started out as a child hood dream I had. It was fun for the girls to helped in the building process picking up block helping with the clean up , in put on the loft, how tall to make it. They helped me to draw designs on the walls. I’ve painted tea pots on the walls and traced around animal shapes too.
Now we have it fully furnished with child sized table chairs, a stool, bench cupboards cabinets, and shelves for hours of child hoof games and fun. We have a split door and a shelf they play drive through espresso stand. With empty containers and a play coffee pot that makes the cutest sounds!

Tonight a storm is blowing through our area. Power lines are down and power outages are reported with wind hail raind and dust blowing downed trees and branches.
Lawns are dry and have turned brown from a lack of water. I used to set the before I left of my walks in the mornings last year. I’m adjusting to my summer schedule flip flopping my walk and quiet time slots. Do what works! =DLast weekend at the book store I checked on DVDs I wanted to price check for a Christmas gift but they did not have it and it was not in their system, I’ll have to check a different source. What color is your fishing pole?
I had a five foot green pole that was a iridescent green color, I’ve had this one for several years it was a combo set we got it on a trip to Sully, Montana one year when we are on a trip we rented a K.O.A. by a lake.
This green pole went unused for several years standing in the closet, then we got a boat and I started fishing again. I tried one of the guys ugly sticks these fishing poles are clear on the end the last foot or so, and this dark gray color on the rest of the it hence the name ugly stick, graphic grey the color of lead in your pencil. Dear son had a new seven foot one and once we tried that one dear husband was hooked!
Dear son has a reel with a trigger on the upper part of the reel. (I have not been able to figure that one out.) My finger is my trigger I hold the line with it. I am going for more of a low tech. real at the moment anyway.
Last year we got new poles and reels around father’s day and the selection seems to be the best. I went for a bright yellow seven foot pole with a nice reel with 3-4 ball bearings in it this is a sweet set up. The pole goes fishing even if I don’t the guys like it too. It’s a Shakespeare Durango model.
I got another Durango seven foot pole and this one is red. I have my eye on a fancy reel with a trigger under the reel; these are the adult version of a kiddie push button reel to cast with when I was a kid we used. The grand kids are using this type now. I saw a white pole combo set up I want the pole, it has a push button real for one of the grand daughters. I’ll swap it out and put it on the six foot green pole.
We have three reels and need to be restrung with new line this year. Guess what I found in dear hubby’s tackle box? A spool of fishing line he had forgotten was even in there. And some extra bobbers I seem to be be loosing them right and left.
Dear son gave dear grand daughter a fishing lesson on the bank when we are on the boat father’s day this year. I was fishing from the boat she reached over and gently pushed down the rip of my pole and said “there you go grams” She got that part of the lesson. (Keep the tip of your pole down.) Dear son decided that teaching one child at a time was enough. I took the other one berry picking. =D We had a blast!
I have a blue pole it is a heavy duty pole for salmon steelhead or sturgeon fishing. A red one, the white one will be good to go with the red white and blue color scheme of the boat. We had to add more pole holders as our amount of fisher people has increased on the boat now.
This started when I said I saw a six dollar pole at the store that I wanted, the guys were teasing me and then some how the discussion turned to an argument of sorts more of a light hearted debate. When I said it’s all in the real. It does not matter the pole. (As long as it’s a graphite pole.)
So off to the store we go, I get the pole, the reel will have to wait. People smile when we pack a red seven foot fishing pole to the check out on father’s day weekend. So when we took the boat out yesterday one side of the boat had the guy’s ugly sticks, and the other side had a rainbow assortment of the girls and my poles.
With at least eight poles on the boat you could tell as we let the dock we were in for some serious fishing fun or on our boat. I rigged up the red pole with a reel I had here from my green pole, the reel squeaks slightly on in it.
Plain Jane pole, ugly stick, poles with fancy expensive reels or rainbow colored fishing poles, fishing for fun pleasure or serious no frills get down to business get it done type of pole. No matter what type your fishing pole or other fishing tools I’ve seen some guys using bow and arrow to hunt carp with fishing tools come in many types styles sizes and colors pick one that suits you.
My one reel that squeaks needs to be updated, tweaked or oiled, sometimes we need to update our plans, techniques, knowledge and get new places to fish.

Ms. not timid meets Mr. perfect
Ms. not timid enters the life of Mr. perfect making an impression on the whole farm family when she kills a mouse in the bath room with one of the size thirteen shoes on the floor of her future hubby or his siblings, she enters the living room holding this dead mouse the women in the room (future mother in law and two sister in law’s) who are recoiling at the sight of a mouse alive or dead.
Ms. not timid asks, "What do I do with this."
"Toss it on the porch for the cats to eat" was the response.
The guys in the room future father in law (fil) and Mr. perfect's two brothers, are smirking just about to burst out into guffaws of laughter, fil turns to future hubby and says “She’s not timid is she?”
Enter in to the picture Mr. perfect that was raised by an only (only child) Ms. not timid never could make a sandwich to fit the Mr. perfect’s taste. First there were not enough pickles; not four but five the correct number of pickles for a sandwich. No one had ever told Ms. not timid the perfect number of pickles for a sandwich. The next time they were not drained well enough making the sandwiches soggy, and heaven forbid the sandwich meat would be off center, or mayo on the bread crust.
This was the tone thier relationship two eldest kids who knew what they wanted and how the wanted it. Who’ve moved on past what has been dubbed the rerunning "pickle fight". Mr. perfect now eats leftovers and make his own sandwiches for his lunches. Ms. not timid said "you can make your own sandwiches",
then Mr. perfect replies that "mom always made them for dad".
On several occasions Ms. not timid responded,
"I’m not your mother and I'm working two jobs, I don’t see you getting up at four a.m. to make any lunches for me or anyone."!
There is a tell the truth rule around here and have had it for twenty plus years before Dr. Phil was popular.
Mr. perfect picks up after himself and always has, is great at math and does not know how to ask for help, and rarely asks for directions, does not leave soxs in all over the house and has learned to rinse and load his own dishes in the dishwasher.
Ms. not timid however used to know how to pick up after herself but some where along the way seems to have lost that skill. Tis’ way different to pick up your own bedroom than to keep up with a family of five!
What's wrong with this picture? LOL!

LOL!

Farmers Market
This morning on my way out to pick up the adds from the paper in the driveway today I saw a squirrel scamper up the tree, and two doves flew out of the neighbors yard. The air was cool and crisp and smelled clean.
Today farmer’s market is on our list of fun things to do! =D
We have all been looking forward to it we enjoyed doing this last summer a fun outting for us to look forward to after doing our chores and things around here. It was great today they had crafts, a table of woven bags baskets hats and scarves and honey, early veggies, and some wood crafts too. We got beets, a snack, and some onions and oh yes some lavender mint home made soap! I asked about a rose scented one and she said she had other scents and would be back to the one on Sat.
It was not so hot and a nice cool breeze was blowing some people had lawn chairs in the shade on the lawn and others were at tables under shade trees having sack lunches.
The biggest farmers market in the area is about a half hours drive North of here in Moscow, Id. I'm looking forward to getting to that one. Putting it on my list of places to go this summer. Maybe the next time we go to mow one of the farms.

Classic Cars free fishing weekending.
I watched “Into the West” the first episode. It was very stirring,
I remembered when we were in Canada on a tour with a motor cycle group and went to the Buffalo jump museum, it was one of the high lights of our 2,300 mi. week long trip to the Edmonton mall and back. I recognized parts of this movie of scenes in a book I’d read or similar scenes in other movies.
Our son did not get the boat welding job he is going back to work on the wheat farm or ranch with a guy he went to school with. He worked there last summer too.
Friday was challenging in part of it at least I showed and listed some property we have a lot I bought at a land auction in the 80’s we were going to build a new house on it and never got around to it. So it was time to declutter it. Dear hubby called on the cell phone to see if I could do that today. It was not exactly on my list for my free day Friday stuff but I was off track with my stuff any way. I did get it done by the end of the day between errands and chores two realtors in and out with no warning oh brother the first one wanted to see the basement, she understood when I said "grand kids live here". I opened the door to the pantry and closed it so fast she may are may not have gotten a peak and I did not open any of the closets. And when I opened the door to the office I said "this is the stash and dash room"! The bright spot in my day was on my drive by the lot in the morning I saw a deer just a few houses down from it that was a treat.
My friend told me that after I asked them if they were interested in selling their older Chevy with a short narrow box pick up truck they were not using. I’d seen ones like these in car shows and dh (dear hubby) told his friend that restores and shows classic cars a 57 chev. & 70 Corvette. I told my son-in-law that is a Chevy mechanic, she said someone came up and offered them more for it than they were going to ask for it and was amazed that it had happened.
Then she mentioned that they had a boat in the garage and nothing to pull it with I said you live on a street with a lot of traffic you could put it on the front lawn for sale. (I have a small boat in my front yard too.) She seemed excited about this prospect. They are getting ready to retire and liquidating things so they can go on the mission field.
It's free fishing day in Idaho and Washington I'm taking my pole to the BBQ it's by the Clearwater River. A family BBQ to met more future inlaws. I have a picnic basket partly loaded. I have decided I need a new reel for my old pole and a red pole with a reel for grand kids to use and an out of state fishing lisc. for the year for Idaho we live on the boarder. Then I can take grand kids to go fishing! I'm getting out my favorite fun ideas for the grand kids to do in the summer for fun and looking forward to it I've been chomping at the bit for school to get out so I can play with them and have fun at the fishing hole!

Pencil Dancing
I’ve been reading Pencil Dancing.
I was really excited to get this book,
But when it arrived I was disappointed
I’m not sure why. For one thing the print was rather small.
The ideas were not all the different or new to me.
I got the book from a book club I was in
and I have had to realize that I needed to let go of this book club.
I’m hoping that this will help with the problem of the piles
and stacks of books I have around here.
I was able to weed out several and have the done reading stack greatly reduced! One of the things I got for Christmas last year was books,
I might need to rethink that before the holidays this year!
I am enjoying this book again now as I picked it up this spring,
It seems fresh and new for me and in season, it was not in season for me in the winter. (Maybe its the new glasses I got between the time I got this book and now!)
I’ve not thought about this much, but this seems to be a seasonal book.
Rather strange thought an in season book! Hum… something to be thinking about!

Funeral
Rough week here grief hits home:
Last year some time the grand daughter's cousin a girl age four was attacked by a teen with a shovel. Something about him needing drugs I can’t remember all the details, she survived a while several months in a PVS (Permanent Vegatative State) the teen was in sentenced and served 6 months and got 6 months off for good behavior. This week the granddaughters cousin died suddenly, their mom and other granny went to the funeral.

Dry Camping
Dry camping means you haul your own water in to camp with
This was not our first experience at this, but it was our first dry camp
trip with the new pull trailer, and it sure beats tenting it!
Dry camping last weekend was a great weekend fishing was awesome!
There was only one snake a brown snake not poisonous.
I caught the biggest fish a 10 lb. carp! (No I’m not miss spelling crap: carp is a type of fish we have here.) And we both caught our limit of bass I was using worms & a bobber. I found a hook and a jig, and a big spinner set up for steal head salmon dh can add that to his tackle box. My new pole works great! =D
I returned with a fresh perspective that I needed. I got some reading, sat by the river and did a few great sketches. I started a reading new book Lake House by James Paterson that I "m really enjoying.
got some notes together for a couple of pieces I'll be writing up ideas are percolating now for these! =D I like fishing because it helps me to put things back in perspective for me and the sound of the water is very soothing.
I have post camping chores to deal with here. The camper is cleaned out.
After we got back we went fishing again Sun. afternoon at a spot I’d had my eye on for a few weeks and caught my limit in less than an hour! =D A new record for me! Landed two other kinds of fish carp and swuaw fish dh claims is a young carp and the biggest fish again! Dh had to come over and see what I was hollering about and then invaded my fishing hole! ;D
I can pick ‘em. I can’t wait for school to get out so I can take the grand kids fishing.
Before we left Sat. we spent quite a bit of time getting the camper ready
and did not get out of here as early as we had hoped at the campsite getting the fridge going was quite a challenge we did not bring a back up ice chest so we will be doing that in the future.
Dh (dear hubby) was working on getting the awning back up we had to put it out to dry it off, it rained Sunday morning. The awning was great for shade, and when it was pouring down rain the next day too. Sun. camping was not dry!
This is good because most of the camping stuff is back in place to use again this weekend. I forgot the cocoa that would have been great on the cooler rainy morning. So I’ll need to make sure we have this loaded. The camper will be reloaded by the end of the day and ready to use again by the end of the week.
Happy Trails!

6 Mo. Review
It’s June and half of the year is gone, how are you doing with your goals this year?
Are you half way to meeting your goals for the year?
I’ve been thinking about this and in review I have come up with some things.
#1 dear grand daughter can write read ride her bike and tell time tie her own shoes get her own cereal for breakfast and get herself dressed.
6 mo. ago she could not do those things.
#2 dear grand daughter has adjusted well to her glasses and is no longer running in to walls, can get herself dressed and gets up and gets dressed when she first gets up.
Dear grandson youngest can say the whole alphabet and talk with a few new words each week.
Last year we moved the office and combined my office with dear hubby’s. Moved the dear grand daughters room in to a room with a closet.
I’ve added a dozen new rose bushes to the garden.
Dear son graduated the two year program at collage, two more years to go. He got engaged.
We have started the twelve month count down to empty nest again.
I lost 7 of the 10 lbs. I put on at Christmas time.
I got back on track with my QT = Quiet Time and daily Bible reading.
I got my note book tablet pc and learned how to use the new operating system.
Subbmitted book reviews it for publication, on a web site.
I've have several of these published. They put in the links and graphics for me. http://www.intotheflame.com/index.php?topic=Reviews
I also wrote up a piece for two on line life groups and mailed that in
to be in the selections for summer life groups at church.
Updated some files and the front page of my peels planner yahoo group.
And I've revamped my house hold org. and holiday note books.
